Worcester music archive needs new home

OK, kiddies here is the deal. I have about 60-70 reel to reel tapes of all sorts of music and shows that happened here in Worcester. It isn't the Stones at Sir Morgan's, but I'm sure someone out there would like to listen to all this stuff. Stuff is on 10", 7", 5" & 3" reels.

Best part of this is that I will also throw in a Akai GX-646 Reel to reel player (4 track stereo with speeds of 3 3/4 & 7 1/2 IPS, accepts up to 10" reels) .

All of this stuff is FREE to the person who wants this stuff to archive and keep for future generations and not just dump in the trash. 99% of the tapes I have no idea what is on them as I haven't had the time to listen to them but I'm sure there is some GREAT music there.

PLEASE contact me by private message on Worcesterite and I will certainly get back to you. I can try to provide as much information as I can, but I am NOT going to write down a list of every band/show I have. You must give me at least 4 days to get everything together and you must pick everything up at my house.

Thanks!!!!

Re: Worcester music archive needs new home

I have a proposal: We (WCCA) will donate , actually share,a small safe and protected space to archive media, in exchange, for some volunteers with power tools and skill, to help build an environmentally correct archive to house such tapes including about 14,000 or so video we have collected since 1986. Do you know any carpenter types that can help build and install some moving shelves, lay down some tracks and casters, we can design it so its static free, clean, I have other ideas on how to make this happen. I also have some Old Eric Gale 24 track tape among other ancient gems. I'd love to see that stuff save for history sake, we even work together to catalog it for all posterity. Great idea.

sorry about not doing the IM thing.

I would most certainly lend a hand and / or help design this archive. Pretty handy with tools.

Mauro,
This is great, although I do not have the time to help. Put out the call and I'm sure other people will. I have all the tapes in 3 or 4 boxes. Really busy this week but will certainly be in touch next week about these tapes. Thanks!

Louie

Re: Worcester music archive needs new home

It'd be awesome if this stuff was converted to digital and put up on Archive.org!

Re: Worcester music archive needs new home

It would be great to store those tapes in WCCA's basement (an old bank vault!). With a couple interns or volunteers, I bet you could get them all on archive.org inside of a year.

The Internet Archive just announced the 50,000th live show was posted there:
