Went for dinner the other night and really enjoyed it. It was great to sit outside on Pleasant St. I had the BBQ half chicken that was very good. The sauce is pretty good. Texas style- a little sweet with some strong vinegar undertones. The brisket had a great smokey flavor and served dry. The pulled pork was tasty, though I would have liked to see that served dry as well.
It is BYOB and moderately prices. I will go back.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
i live right near there. the place is very good for the price. the outside seating and service is phenomenal.
i dont kill for the food, but its well above average.
its def worth trying for anyone that hasnt yet.
"what?"
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
I love the environment and the service is usually exceptional. I wish there were more low-fat options and veggies and I actually find the entree prices to be a little high. Also, there is always a lack of seating.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
I broke bread at the same table as the Yeti. I had a pulled pork burrito. It was really friggin good. Pretty huge and stuffed with lots of pork/rice/vegi/cheese/sour cream goodness. I also enjoyed the beans that I got on the side. I liked sitting outside. I like that it is BYOB and there is a liquor store not 25 feet away. It's very similar to just having a bar and the liquor store counter is probably closer to the tables than at some of the bigger bars in the city. Somehow that square (what square is that?) is pretty vibrant and good for people watching/making fun of people/mooks driving buy and being loud in their cock cars. All in all it's a great spot. If it isn't too busy and there aren't people waiting it's almost worth it to get dinner and just have that be your drinking spot for the night.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
The service was pretty awesome. Are they all family that work there? It seemed like out server was the owner's 19 year old son.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Jesus did we give him a hard time. He took it like a champ though.
What I failed to mention is that if you do go next door and buy a six pack they will give you a bucket and ice to keep it chilled and give you glasses for the beer!
If this is common most other places I apologize. My BYOB is kind of limited to Tortilla Sam's who I think could really give a rat's ass what you do with your booze once you bring it in.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
wait...you want more 'low fat and veggie options' at a place called west side dead cow and pork?
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Westside's very good. I miss the convenience of living in that area for them and also the Corner Grille.
for the record I am going to say this though:
The package store next door to westside SUCKS and the guy behind the counter is a dick.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Sam's will give you an ice bucket and glasses if you ask, usually. or maybe they just liked me.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Are the glasses frosty? Cause these were.
Hi! :-)
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
No... thankfully.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Actually I do! I mean if it's a BBQ place they could have more grilled veggies and salads with grilled meats. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken once and it sucked. The pulled pork and the burritos both sound amazing, I will just go there when I want to be bad. ;)
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Go back to your hippy commune, hippy. Burning flesh resides here and has no use for your salads and assorted roots.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
a TRUE BBQ place won't even serve sides OR have BBQ sauce.
There will be cords of wood stacked up outside and smokers that are the size of your house. There is no air conditioning and the temperature will be staggering because of those smokers, in fact you will be lucky to even see your meat through the smokey haze.
You will order fatty brisket and the fat will melt like butter in your mouth. The meat itself you will suck on to get every little bit of flavor out of. You will not order by the slice, you will order by the pound, and in particular, you will NOT order veggies.
This lesson was brought to you by the Texas BBQ association. :)
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
oh by the way...this is what a chicken fried steak looks like :)
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
I am ordering steak for lunch, happy?
Can't a gal get a little veg?
Geez...
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Tennessee BBQ is meat and three (sides that is). The "veggies" as they call the include mac and cheese, corn bread, baked beans and jello.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
I was going to say, there are more types of BBQ than Texas BBQ.
Terrible Buddhist=some sort of Texist.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Texism is destroying America
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
Like yeti said, the Tennessee sides are quite varied and very tasty.
I'm craving Jack's brisket now...
It's a boy Mrs. Walker, it's a boy...
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
"pulled pork burrito"
This is going to be Kyle's new favorite place.
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
BBQ is bad for the environment
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
But great for the soul
Re: Westside Steak and BBQ
