Turtle Boy Thursdays

The Turtle Boy Music award night were so much fun, Worcester Magazine has decided to keep the flavor flowing over the summer.

Starting this Thursday, we'll be coordinating once-a-month "Turtle Boy Thursdays" up and down the Canal District/Green Island (Yes, we know there's not a canal. No, we can't think of a better term). We've got a badass night of music & stuff going on---at least 7 clubs, with more coming online every hour, and at least 10 bands. Like the Turtle Boys, this is going to be almost entirely cover-charge free, and entirely walkable. (The idea is that it's possible to catch amazing live music in Worcester without having to drive place-to-place over the course of a night.)

And Thursday is only the beginning---July, August, and beyond are only going to get bigger.

(And yes, if Kobe & the Band force a Game 7 against the Celtics, the music will still be playing. Basketball does not stop the beat.)

IF it goes 7..... And I hope it doesn't, that street could be pretty out of control around midnight!!

Oh my god.

Simple. It won't go to 7.

And IF it does...we're taking credit for how crowded the street is, but crediting all the jackasses to the game.

I would love to come up with a new term! Scott lets work on this...The "canal" thing is getting very, very old.

More teasers...

We've got music at the Dive from a veritable Harlem Globetrotters of Worcester music(Duncan, Scott, Troy, Mike T) all the way down to Nick's (Travis Colby from Roomful of Blues). In between, you'll find spicy Latin Jazz at Bocado, a rockin' Flock night at the Dog (I hear the getups are particularly flattering this week), and some light shit, some heavy shit sprinkled throughout...a great night, in other words.

Re: Turtle Boy Thursdays-Schedule

Introducing Turtle Boy Thursdays: A monthly Third Thursday series of music, entertainment and more throughout the easily walkable Canal District/Kelley Square area.

This week, we’re launching with a small but robust lineup that features no-cover live music at the Dive Bar, Bocado, Block 5, and Nicks. Flock of Assholes (and friends) will be doing their thing at the Lucky Dog with no cover charge before 11; there’s a big time poetry slam at Hotel Vernon, trivia at Greyhound Pub, poker night at Creegan’s, and we may even have the infamous stagecoach shuttling people up and down the strip.

If you want some grub before the music starts, The Banner, Centre Bar & Grille, and Jose Murphy’s are all serving. (Block 5, Bocado, and Nick’s also have food)

And that says nothing of the other bars in the ‘hood: Blackstone Tap, Fusion, Blue, Tara…the list goes on.

The best part? This is just our warmup act: We’ve got big plans for the rest of the summer, and the third Thursdays in August and September are already shaping up to be the kind of nights you’re going to want to take Friday off for.

We’ll see you on the street Thursday!

Mostly complete schedule: (It’s growing!)

7:00: Greyhound Pub – Brain Freeze Trivia
7:30: Hotel Vernon – All Women Poetry Slam
8:30-12:30: Dive Bar – Duncan Arsenault, Troy Gonyea, Scott Riccuiti, Michael Thibodeau
