Tubing

Stacy's picture

So, I am making my way up to VT this weekend to do some tubing on the Batten Kill, has anyone ever done this? What should I expect? Bring?

We went last year so I know the layout but I missed the tubing! Wicked excited :)

Re: Tubing

You are lucky as hell. I have been wanting to do this for a few years now. You can do it on the Deerfield too out in Western Mass. It's one of the few places I have ever seen in Massachusetts where public drinking not only seems accepted but encouraged.

Re: Tubing

A life vest if you can't swim (tho I doubt the river is very deep) and a tethered cooler in its own little tube for refreshments...hahaha

Oh, and some watersocks or crocs. Have a good time, tubing is fun.

Re: Tubing

I love going to Deerfield. The first time I went we stopped halfway through and I tried the ropeswing not too smooth. Ending up breaking 2 fingers but hey I made it to the end. I love tying the cooler to the tube and going down it's so much fun. Never been to VT to tube.

Re: Tubing

I haven't done it since high school. We use to raft in Deerfield every year when I was younger, But as I got older, I grew less brave.

Kyle and I did head out west last weekend though, If you do go to the Mohawk Trail you have to swim in the Glacial Potholes, Its beautiful there.

Did you guys jump off the cliffs? That is one of my favorite places. A happy place if you will. :)

Re: Tubing

I wish I could dive off cliffs into the water. The Missus can and does. As does the Daughter....but alas, no swimmie for Ronaldo.

No, I didn't...I'm a huge baby. We just took pictures of other people doing it.

Re: Tubing

Stace, are you doing the tubing w/ Glen and Company? Man oh Man oh Man you are in for the best time!! I would highly recommend going to a dollar store and/or even Target to buy some flotation devices. they rent big black truck tubes down the street from the entrance but they are always sold out. So if you pack in the car just some extras and keep the receipt if not used you can return.. (if they do have tubes available though, definetly go w/ those ones). They'll have cooler/tubes so no worries about that. I know your a great swimmer, but no worries about that cause there's not any spot that's over your head.. it's cool cause if you get ahead of the pack, you can just stand up and wait for them.
man I'm jealous! have fun!!!

Life's short. Touch Art.

Re: Tubing

I made my famous picnic salad! Woohoo! Soooo much fun, I'm sad it's over. Man oh man do I hurt. The river was fairly slow moving but it didn't matter, I highly recommend it.

Re: Tubing

It was slow huh? bet it was deeper than usual w/ all the rain we've been having. pretty nice weekend for it too. I gotta make it there next year.
