Design Critique - Rock Band Logos

David Cotner runs a great blog critiquing rock band logos. It's a great compilation of logos as well as spot-on commentary on design.

"By the time you're done, you'll never want to see another skull, cow, or peace sign ever again."

large editions + low prices

I ordered a print from www.20x200.com last week and it arrived today. It's an archival pigment print of an original work by Laura Levine, the fantastic rock photographer and illustrator, called 'Birds of the Rockies'. The idea of the website is to sell great art prints in limited quantities of 200 for $20. I think it's a brilliant marketing idea and could easily be adapted to an art community anywhere. They sell larger prints for more money but also at a limited quantity. The selection is small but select and I am very pleased with the quality of the print.

"As we see it, there are a lot of people out there who want to sell their art and a lot of people who'd like to buy it. They just have a hard time finding each other. The internet is the perfect place to bring those people together, and we're exactly the right people to make it happen. We're passionate about art and the internet at 20x200. We're really excited about creating a place where almost any art lover can be an art collector."

Artists Living in the Providence Mall

Dear Providence,

We have a giant mall in Downtown Worcester that will be there for some time. Please feel free to come set up shop there, nobody will bother you.

Sincerely,

Turtle Boy

----
The leader of an artists' cooperative has been sentenced to probation for illegally setting up a secret apartment inside the Providence Place Mall that was equipped with furniture and a video game system.

Michael Townsend, 36, said he and seven other artists built the apartment in a 750-square-foot loft in the parking garage four years ago and lived there for up to three weeks at a time while documenting mall life.

Looking forward to the 2007-2008 Art season in Worcester

Its been a fairly quiet summer for the art scene here in Worcester highlighted by the opening of Seven Gaits in Southbridge, the Summer members show at ARTSWorcester and Art 4 stART.

What I saw in the 2006-2007 art season was very encouraging, WAG had a gorgeous show curated by the Mass Moca director. stART attracted 15,000 people on Park Ave and ARTSWorcester had a groundbreaking year with art sales well above $30,000. I have had the pleasure to meet a lot of very talented people over the past year. Visual artists as well and musicians. The successes of last year are a testament to the talent in this city. Because of these things I am looking forward to the 2007-2008 season.

The project space at Seven Gaits is definitely worth the drive; keep your eye out for what they are up to; sign their mailing list. stART on the Street is coming up with artists traveling from all over new england to participate (I'm sure I'm not the only participating artist noticing how quick its approaching) Plus there is a whole line up of fall fests coming. The Worcester Photography Center keeps building momentum ARTSWorcester's got an open call
If you are an artist in the area its not too late to get involved with any of these organizations. There's lots of opportunities to show your work, share your ideas, promote what your doing.

Heres a few links.
