So Tammany is 18+ pretty much all the time now no? How is it done? I need to get my ass down there and see for myself one of these nights because I am thinking that it kind of throws out all the prior notions we have had in this city about rock shows, age limits, and alcohol. Anyone else been there since they started doing this? Is there a chicken wire cage? Enquiring minds want to know!!!!
Re: Tammany
it has always been 18+.
the difference is they have all ages shows now on saturday's during the day.
its pretty much a guarantee for me too see like 15-20 dudemasters standing on pleasant st every saturday at like 5-6PM.
"what?"
Re: Tammany
Yes Tammany has always been 18+. Its a good mix of people.
You should def come check it out. Fri is The Curtain Society, Huck, Roz Raskin, and Appomattox. Sat is the Chris Ross Band and the Peacheaters (Allman Brothers Tribute)
Oh, and there is no chicken wire cage, we took that down.

Re: Tammany
I believe Friday at Tammany is also Galyn's official birthday kickoff/celebration so really there's no excuse for you not to be there.
Re: Tammany
At the time TCS goes on I will most likely be at a show in Baltimore.
Re: Tammany
I think what I am trying to get at is that over the years I have been a big proponent of 18+ shows and have met serious obstacles and all sorts of reasons from club owners as to why they can't do it. Everything except simply, I don't want to do it. Most of the reasons where them saying they flat out can't do it unless they do this, this, this and this. See chicken wire. I always thought that these were just ways of saying they didn't want to do it and not legitimate. Tammany kind of proves this I think.
Re: Tammany
I was always under the impression that the clubs that didn't want to do it just didn't want the risk, didn't want to hire the extra staff they felt they needed and didn't feel it was valuable from a bar sales point of view. All ideas that are not well thought out, in my opinion. I think that it is a wise investment to get 18+ people into your club so that when they do turn 21, they love your bar.
I think that it's short sighted to not cultivate a 18+ crowd.
Re: Tammany
Sure like that's a good excuse. I'm sure you will not be excused from the wrath of Galyn.
Re: Tammany
usually its something about bracelets. or something.
but yes. i agree its always a pain in the ass to get 18+ in places that normally dont do it.
boston is even worse. you need like a 1month heads up to get "approved" for 18+.
i have no clue why more bars in worcester don't do it... especially being that most struggle to draw and keep people there consistently.
despite laughing at the 15 mowhawks i do see when i drive by on saturdays, i cant help but think how cool that is. the new owners at tam are squeezing every available opportunity they can out of that place. its refreshing to see.
Re: Tammany
I have already been called lame.
Re: Tammany
A big reason the bars cannot do it is insurance.
It costs a great deal to have an 18+ liability policy.
....and you have to have this in place when the show is taking place.
The place is really getting going with the 18+ and all ages shows.. we are pushing these all ages shows and really looking for alot of new bands both young and old. We have every Sat and Sunday booked with all ages shows in June, Its very exciting. Rock, Hardcore, Punk, Indie, Hip Hop...there are alot of people out there that just don't seam to have a spot to play at any other time. Unless they rent a VFW or something crazy.
as long as the place is a diverse crowd with some drinkers it works. They definitely appreciate the long term effects of having 18+ kids in there and having their place be where they get trashed on their 21st birthday.
Re: Tammany
I wasn't aware of this. Many clubs do it infrequently, are they just ignoring that insurance requirement?
Re: Tammany
Sometimes they will just pay for that one day and increase the liability, like a special event or one time thing etc... but its a big part of it... if the club has a limited liabilty 21+ policy.
I run into this at the other place I book for in Lowell which is a similar size, 300 capacity music hall and 600 capacity club, two floors. They have done it for one time events and increased the insurance as needed. They have about 50 staff so managing a bunch of kids is not an issue with underage drinking etc...
but it is def a rare thing, 18+ and all ages
Re: Tammany
This explains a lot. Thanks.
