The Q stripped of entertainment permit

I was told that The Q (on Chandler St) had entertainment shut down. Apparently they never had a permit in the first place. Does any one know the story behind this?

It's a small place and having something like this could make a big cut in the income. Do you think they'll get a permit approved after this?

Another all ages casualty. Is the Java Hut the longest continually running all ages venue you can think of? That place was open for quite a long time.

How long has the Palladium been open...different atmosphere but still all ages.

I am more talking about the smaller E bar, Q, Java Hut type places. Spiritual Haze is the only game in town now, well the only actual business anyways, and I think they are 18+ due to the whole hooka thing.

Tammany is doing all ages shows right?

What was the story behind Trance Buddah closing? Was it shut down or did it just go out of business?

i was supposed to play there this upcoming saturday. never heard anything from anyone about getting shut down. after reading this thread the other day i wrote and asked if shows were off, and did not get a response. good thing i didn't just show up.

Trance Buddha was run incredibly piss-poorly, but even though I think it deserved to be closed I think the guy who owned it just closed it for personal reasons (although it couldn't have been making any money). Lack of advertising, bad location (no public transportation), incompetent people working there, it goes on and on. Just because it's all-ages doesn't mean it should be a shit hole. And it was.

This is so true. I have never seen a well run, nice all ages venue around here and have only seen two venues that I liked to play (Cafe Espresso; not the restaurant in Worcester, but the coffee house in Franklin) and the Grafton Inn.
The rest have treated performers crappier than usual, as if it was a privilege to play there. I think we have this beautiful image of all ages shows of out youth, but they were probably just as poorly run as they are now. We just were oblivious to anything, but the experience.

Oh no, always poorly run. Even in our youth.

Spiritual Haze may also be at risk, unfortunately. Though they have all proper permits, the proximity to residences is causing problems (mostly noise violations). It's always astounded me that Worcester has so many college students, yet ceases to be a college town. Is it just me, or would encouraging this type of business help Worcester economically and put us on the map?

I hope the Q gets their permit approved, because Worcester needs venues that are open late and don't shove alcohol down throats.
