I like the Fender blackface RIs a lot, but I realize that they can be upgraded straight out of the box, for better tone.
At Tremolo Lounge, we've got a Naylor designed speaker in our 65 Deluxe RI. You could always swap out the tubes and upgrade to a nice Weber speaker and improve the tone.
As it is, I like that amp a lot for what it does. It can be bright, and it can get flubby on the bottom end, but I honestly expect that sort of thing from any Deluxe. They sounds terrific with Teles, or single coils in general. They handle distortion pedals pretty well too.
What I like best about the Deluxes is the single 12" speaker. It may not cover a big stage very well, but the focused tone of that single speaker really gives a nice punch.
Now, if I had the dough and I wanted a new Fender, I'm all about the 64 Vibroverb RI with the 15" speaker. That thing is SICK! Gorgeous sounding.
I also love my 63 Vibroverb RI with the 2 10's. I love Jensens in mine. Great chime and lots of sweet Fender dirt.
