Amp Hunt

Since I'm probably not getting a blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb anytime soon, I've been hunting for more.. economical.. alternatives. Basically, I'm looking for a tube amp in the 18-30 watt range with spring reverb.

A relatively affordable alternative seems to be the old Ampeg amps, such as the Gemini/Reverborocket/Reverb Jet. I've found some good deals on them, but I've hesitated because of shipping issues. With a little patience, these can generally be bought for about $300.

Anybody know any comparable alternatives? I know there are similar Gibson and Epiphone models floating around, but I don't really know much about them.

Re: Amp Hunt

Stay away from the Gibsons. I've always found those to be dark and dull sounding. The Ampegs rock. Even the reissues are pretty killer.

You might want to hold out for a good deal on a reissue Deluxe or a silverface that needs the blackface mods.

Re: Amp Hunt

It may not quite be the wattage you are looking for, but you may want to look into a blues junior.

Re: Amp Hunt

I considered that. Or a Hot Rod Deluxe, which can be had around 300-350.

How much you looking to spend on a Deluxe Reverb?

Re: Amp Hunt

Mmmm, Ampeg. wink.
the Crate V series stuff is cool too. class a & ab. if you can lose the negative crate stigma that runs rampant , and you could get a cool sounding, classy looking amp...I was surprised at how neat they are. The 30 watter is a stunner.
