I don't know all the details yet for the weekend that Ralph's has planned on Sept 23 & 24 but The Curtain Society will be playing on the Friday the 23rd with the great band Of The Hour.
All of the proceeds of this weekends shows are being donated to disaster relief organizations to help the people affected by hurricane Katrina.

Re: Ralph's Hurricane Benefit Shows
Will there be any giveaways? Those always entice me to go to shows.
Since Lusting Kay is off the show tomorrow, can the as yet unnamed, undefined acoustic combo with no songs that I am forming with Keith sit in tonight?

Be happy I don't manage your band. I would probably have you playing county fairs around Galveston and doing in-stores at record shops in New Orleans this week.

Re: Ralph's Hurricane Benefit Shows w/ The Curtain Society and O
I really enjoyed the show, Jediah were amazing but I think they should have gone on right before The Curtain Society. Of The Hour were interesting...kind of Proggy, a bit too much like Radiohead for my tastes. It was weird, Jediah had a lot of female fans up front dancind etc. Of the Hour seemed to be a "Musicians" band with lots of guys, myself included watching them closely as they played. The Curtain Society played an amazing set with a great mix of songs.
I was really annoyed at the lack of respect they got from the other bands and was annoyed that this amazing band played to such a sparce crowd. Perhaps having the "headlining" band start at 12:30 is not such a great idea. Personally I would have put Trebek first, then Jediah, The Curtain Society, Of The Hour. I think it would have worked better. I would also go back to the old days of Ralphs when band all loaded out at the end of the night thereby assuring that the prior bands, and at least some of their fans, are there until the end.

Re: Ralph's Hurricane Benefit Shows w/ The Curtain Society and O
Thanks very much for the kind words.
In the end, mission accomplished as they say, as Dickie told me after our set, that the show in all had generated quite alot of funds to help the Katrina (and unfortunately Rita) victims. That makes me happy.

I'm out getting my abs airbrushed on...leave a message
Re: Ralph's Hurricane Benefit Shows w/ The Curtain Society and O
I thought I was the only one who noticed that...
Look, if you need to leave early...I get that. There are times we all need to leave before the end of the last band...even when it is an astounding band like TCS.
But there is a time for that...during take off and set up. We have had to do it in the past, and rather than moving your shit off stage and fucking around for a while, you move the shit right off and down to your car while you are getting off the stage and the other band is setting up.
I like the guys in Of The Hour a lot, we have played with them a few times...they are really good guys, and I enjoy their music. I have to say though, that is one of my biggest peaves in music when a band does that.
I may have to shoot them an email or something...I would hate for them to inadvertently get a reputation among other bands for doing stuff like that.
Re: Ralph's Hurricane Benefit Shows w/ The Curtain Society and O
I'd have to agree with the previous comments. I was a little surprised at the exodus of gear that was going on while TCS was setting up. It'd be one thing if they were slipping out the back and nobody could see them, but it was a little weird to have everything rolling in front of the stage and out the door. Looks more like the place is shutting down than getting ready for the headliner.
