I couldn't agree more. I was hoping for rain all week long. It sounds like a nice idea, playing outside, but it kind of takes away the whole "rock show" idea.
It was a ton of fun; not too many people, but I had a blast. I was a little disappointed that a lot of people didn't give BRP a chance because they were pretty stellar considering Brett's band quit on him a month ago and he has been using fill-ins. Only his bass player is the same. Thinner were great as always. They played a a few new songs which were great. It was very hot, but I still would rather play upstairs than outside.
I have to add my apologies here...I had every intention of going to this show, but after my wife helping friends move all day, a shit sleep the night before, and the joy of seeing my cousin come home from Iraq...I was in bed by about the time Thinner took the stage :(
I need to apologize as well, I drank too much...but not too much to know that Bret Rosenberg is a boring poser rock star wannabe. The band seemed tight and together, I just didn't dig the attitude or the songs. New rule, if you see me out and you feel like buying me a Scotch, don't.

hey, you got it, pal. this page comes up when you search for my band. just sayin'.
anyway, ralph's is fun and dream-like. the bee's knees are a fine rock outfit, and thinner's guitarist has great tone...and a rocking, fluid drummer. i did catch like 80 percent of their set.
i thought people stopped calling people poseurs at age 17. you look about 45.
Hey Michael...how long did it take you to walk out of Grand Evolution? There have been NUMEROUS bands at the lucky dog that I could safely walk out on after their sound check at the lucky dog...pretty much because I hate cookie monster vocals.
Further, I wouldn't call what Barry posted as a review, so much as a general statement.
Either way...I still want to hear them and like the fact that their seems to be a 2 way highway between boston bands and worcester bands as of late.
As I said before, I don't care if he likes them or not, or even if he walked out on them, I just don't like that fact that he called them posers with out any information to back it up.
I personally think the biggest slam you can give to a band is to call them posers or fake.
And yes, I walked out on Grand Evolution and would do it again.
And does anyone actually get that while I was a putoff by Barry's off hand slandering, that I have kept this going to see how mad I could get him, just for kicks?
I didn't like the Holics, but I did not walk out on them immediately. They were an OK band in my opinion but were nothing special to me. That band was hyped like crazy from people I know and I thought they were boring. They played fine, just didn't do anything for me. With all the talk about how great they were going to be, it was only fair to have some talk about how NOT great they were.
As far as being poseurs; I think that it is often an appropriate way to describe a band. Whether or not that term bothers you, is up to you but there is no denying that MANY bands are poseurs. This is especially true on the national level.
I think I have an aversion to the word poseur (sorry for my previous misspellings) much like my father's (and many others) aversion to the word choke in sports.
I don't know what I look like when I play and I know what I do up there is natural. I guess that I look like a fool, but for all I know, I may look like a poseur. Because of this, how do I know that this is not the case for many other bands? I do understand that there are many situations where is very obvious that someone is forcing the issue, many times with national bands, but how can you tell what is forced or learned and what is genuine?
Much like one man's choke is another man's comeback, one man's poseur is another man's showman.
Re: The Bee's Knees, Brett Rosenberg Problem and Thinner at Ralp
We're inside, folks. Inside.
That is all.

I am sure people probably think that I am a poseur. I don't worry about it.
I think if you are genuine about what you are doing then you have nothing to worry about.
