I am looking for a recommendation of a great Sangria recipe. I have found many online but if someone has one they recommend, post it up here. If your recipe gets chosen, I will make a huge jug of it this weekend and drink the entire thing in your honor.
Here is the basic recipe that I am familiar with;
* 1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
* 1 Lemon cut into wedges
* 1 Orange cut into wedges
* 2 Tbsp sugar
* 1 Shot brandy
* 2 Cups ginger ale or club soda
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.
Re: Sangria Recipes?
I have nothing to add other than that there sounds delicious, and I will help you drink it.

Re: Sangria Recipes?
yes, yes you will :-)
There are so many delicious sounding recipes here, but I am looking for that top secret, special recipe, y'know?
Re: Sangria Recipes?
I've made a few different sangrias, all received well.
Basic:
2 gallons wine (Zinfandel, usually)
1 c brandy
1/2 c Cointreau
2 quarts orange juice
2 c lemon juice
1 c superfine sugar
2 quarts chilled club soda (or ginger ale)
3 oranges, thinly sliced
3 lemons, thinly sliced
Dissolve sugar in orange/lemon juice. Mix wine, brandy, cointreau together. Add juice mixture and stir. Chill overnight. Before serving, add soda and ice. I've added the fruit slices before and after chilling. Both have worked pretty well.
If you like peach, this is a nice alternative recipe.
Prosecco Sangria:
1 each~ peach, nectarine, apricot
5 oz peach brandy
1 bottle prosecco, chilled
1 c peach nectar
superfine sugar, to taste
Pit the fruit and cut into wedges. Stir in the brandy; let sit from one hour up to overnight. Stir in prosecco and peach nectar.
we came up with minimal meets retro meets fun meets eclectic.
Re: Sangria Recipes?
I personally wouldn't add anything carbonated to mine; the best ones I've had skipped it as well.
Re: Sangria Recipes?
A friend on another board offered this:
- 750 mL bottle of Concha y Toro Merlot
- (1) Frozen Lime Juice cylinder, like Minute Maid
- (1) 2liter bottle of Orange Pop, Sprite, or 7UP
- Rum to taste (@ 4 shots).
- 12 oz can of drained, diced pineapple (NOT the kind in syrup)
- Fruit (diced Apples, Oranges, Peaches)
for those with a taste for a little carbonation.
Some nice tasty sounding recipes here. Never made sangria.
Re: Sangria Recipes?
And another
"Red wine sangria
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always use a light red wine - merlot, even better is 1/2 cab sav and 1/2 rose
For 6 ltrs -
1 btl merlot
1 btl rose
1 btl sparkling wine (champagne)
canned chopped fruit - including chopped apple, peach, pear
1 clove
*important, secret ingredient* - 1.25 ltrs fizzy ginger ale
largish dash of gomme syrup
this is a 5-star hotel recipe (where i work)
*important* make the day before and let the alcohol and fruit soak together.
You can use a large punchbowl to serve, add ice just before service, and for a little bit of class - ensure you have a ladle and sufficient glassware to serve your guests.
Sangria is often served from large, bulbous jugs (heh) so make sure you keep the jugs chilled by icing regularly."
Sangria is a class drink to serve, BTW...thirsty over here.
