What to bring?

sleeplessknight's picture

I plan on coming to the Network Mixer tonight, but I don't know what to wear/what to bring. What do the other bands tend to do at these things? I've got a boatload of businesscards that I carry with me, but should I go so far as to bring demo CDs/Press Kits?

TIA!

Re: What to bring?

People seem to love getting CDs and demos. Business cards are great to hand out as well. The best thing that comes out of these events is developing relationships with other people in the area who are in the same boat as you. They are all trying to get something happening. We always have a table set up so that you can leave a stack of cds if you want to.

I would recommend just striking up conversation with as many people as you can and just get involved with what other people have going on. I was talking to someone about these get togethers last night and I told him that the people that go to these are not the "fans" that all bands are looking for but they are more just people who all share a common goal.

Re: What to bring?

Generally bands bring me a bottle of 12 Y/O Glenfiddich to insure a favorable review. Lusting Kay is one of the few that have refused as evidenced by their recent reviews.

Re: What to bring?

Thanks everyone for coming. I met a lot of new faces. It is great to catch up with everyone each month about what projects they have going on or just talk about the "scene". I really hope that more people interested in networking with other people that are making things happen, take advantage of these Mixers. I am convinced that there is no better way to get things happening than by meeting people face to face.

A bunch of us managed to move over to Tammany Hall afterwards and catch People's Republic of Monsters. For a Monday night there was a pretty decent crowd. I would say about 50 people or so.

Re: What to bring?

I just remembered that Craig arrived promoting their upcoming "birthday show" with a birthday cake and birthday hats.
