Readers of USA Today voted for Pearl Jam as the greatest American rock band ever.
I have to agree with the writer of the column, Whitney, that R.E.M. is the greatest American rock band ever.
The Top 10 according to the readers were:
Pearl Jam
Aerosmith
Van Halen
The Eagles
Journey
Guns N' Roses
The Grateful Dead
Queensryche
The Doors
and
R.E.M.

This is outrageous. Why should this credit go to muddy bass tracks, drums beats that sound like they were played on paper plates, Neil Young knock-off guitar riffs and an alcoholic who can't even speak clearly get credit for such an amazing and complex industry that has been in the making for 60 years?

I think that people were just having a tough time thinking of favored American bands.

I think the columnist has some pretty cool picks. I agree with all of them but the Grateful Dead. Especially R.E.M., The Replacements, The Stooges, The Replacements, and of course my own choice, The Ramones.
Clip from the article:
They've stayed true to themselves. "Instead of selling out with videos and constant press coverage, they pulled back at their height, and focused on the music," wrote Willie McNabb in El Dorado, Ark.
Question: Isn't one of the most important parts of American bands in the industry today their impact on the media?

I don't know what's worse about this country.
The fact that Bush got re-elected or that QUEENSRYCHE is on that friggin list!
