Programming Music in Reason

I am considering Mike's offer to host a music programming clinic at Dynamo's. I am by no means a master at programming but I have some skills that I would be more than willing to share.

I am curious about what it is people are interested in learning.

Re: Programming Music in Reason

I think that an overview of getting into the nitty-gritty of Reason would be great. The things that aren't obvious when you are just messing with it without a manual.... stuff like how to access the different programming windows in the sequencer to do automation of the synths and the mixer functions. You know all the neat tricks for ways to get subtle textures happening underneath the static sequences.

Interesting routing schemes would be cool too, regarding modules, FX, and controlling functions with sequencer tracks.

At least those are some of the things that I learned from you.

This is without a doubt something that I would go out of my way to attend.

Re: Programming Music in Reason

I think the hardest thing to learn for a LOT of people, is how to make drum loops that sound even remotely as cool as what you'd hear on a commercial album. That's usually the biggest complaint for most people I talk to.

I don't think your band is very good.

Drums are difficult but I know a few really good tricks for getting a nice feel. I am working on some tracks right now (without a keyboard BTW)that use some of these tricks. I have been on a reggae vibe lately so some have that feel. They are not even CLOSE to being done but I exported a section of the timeline so you can have a listen. If there is anything in these that you are curious how I got the sound, let me know. I have Reason open right now. When I have some more time I will write down what these tricks are.

Keep in mind these are just exports from works that are in progress that are totally not finished but just the five most recent things I did in Reason.
