Mark Knopfler's clean Strat tone is legendary. B.B. King's vibrato, Don Peris from The Innocence Mission with his incredibly unique reverb soaked hollowbody tone, Stevie Ray Vaughn's tone kills me as well.
Tha phazed drums coupled with the guitar solo at the end of Hendrix-Axis Bold as Love have given me that hair standing on end feeling. I love Duanne Eddys tone on the orriginal Rebel Rouser, it's just perfect for that song. Also Robert Smith's gutar on Primary..many others
Any sound from the latest Muse album. The strong chorus sound in the full band version of Swing by The Curtain Society. Any other strong chorus sound related to the sound that I get when I mix my chorus with my overdrive, and add lots of gain to it.

Ah, I have lots of tones in my favorite records that get me. I'll try to think of some.
The solo in Luxuria's "Redneck"
The last chord in "Pictures of Lily" by the Who
The panning flanged lead line in the middle of Rush's "Hemisphere's"
Roger McGuinn's chiming compressed Rickenbacker 12 string.
The flutey les paul solo in "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO.

are you talking about the acoustic part or the delayed electric stuff? There is a big fuzzed out thing in there at some point too.
I love Toad the Wet Sprocket!
Paul is making me nervous
Paul is making me scared
Re: Tones that just GET YOU!
the electric...I love how it just kind of looms there in the background and then gets all big and fuzzy during the bridge!
I am still amazed Toad never got the recognition they deserved. I think Guster kind of took up for them though to some extent.

I saw the first song, right after I saw you actually and what little I heard sounded fantastic. Beautiful guitars too.
