I had a great time at the show last night. I wish I had taken pictures but I was lazy. Thanks for the Lucky Dog for playing host and Greg Munro for putting the whole thing together. There is talk of us doing the show at a few more venues sometime soon, I will let you know the details when I can.
Here is one picture from after the show.

Re: Jim Carroll at the Lucky Dog - 4/16
Very nice picture. I wish I had been lucid enough to saunter downstairs...but hey....
I had a great time as well. A great pairing of giddiness and full on rock, imo. Cloud nine the whole time...damn.
The whole night was really fun. The poets were good, interesting, and good variety in style, the more acoustic Bee's Knees were great in their stripped-bare incarnation, and Thinner in their pure rock frenzy set the tone for the remainder of the night.
I can't thank everyone involved enough for giving me the opportunity to create such a fond memory.

I will start off by saying that I am not a fan of poetry so I won't comment on the poets that read before or in between the music. I will say that they all seemed well received by many people, especially those people sitting in front.
Got there at 9:30 and the place was pretty full. WAG donated 50 or so chairs and they were set up right in front of the stage. It gave the place a different feel and was a nice touch for this kind of event. There was a mix of poets and music with Bees knees starting the music off aroung 9:45. Playing acoustic as a three piece as John Donavan was out of town, seemed to be a good fit with the kind of show this was. Ed and Michael sounded good, Joe's vocals were non existant but his drumming was perfect for this show. They did play a new song that caught my attention, not sure what it was called but Ed wrote it and Michael and Ed sang it together. They played a bunch of songs that I dont like, a couple that I do like, and the crowd seemed to really get into them.
More poets then a quieter,as I was told, Thinner took the stage. Thinner is a rock band pure and simple and when a rock band plays in a rock club there is no "quiet" setting on the soundboard to my knowledge.(however after Friday nights show I am sure there must be a "suck"setting on it somewhere.)
To be fair they did start out at a lower volume but after each song they got louder and louder until finally they were at their normal volume. they were good, played the hits like "when i'm dead", played what I think was a new song that I don't think I have heard before. Neil wore a colorful sparkle vest and the girl next to me that was having some boy trouble commented that she could probably get a boy if she wore just the vest and nothing else. I convinced her to wear her amazing boots as well. Not sure how that all worked out.....
Poets again. This time a female that I couldn't ignore. She said some funny things. hows that for a review?
Jim carroll gets on stage and the place gets quiet. he starts telling some interesting stories but it's hard to hear. This setting is a bit weird plus a good chunk of the crowd had been drinking for three hours now and that led to some minor clashes between "poet people" as I called them and "music/bar people". nothing major but I will say that it was very hard to hear most of what he was saying from where I was standing. he read some of his older works and the "poet people" that were near me really dug it. After about 30 min. or so, Jim told them to ditch the chairs as his backup band for the night"The Catholic Boys"...Roger, Ron and Duncan from the Curtain Society with Scott from Huck, took the stage. They ripped through about six songs including "It's too Late", before a female singer that I dont know joined them on stage for "Sweet Jane" and "People who died".
Jim Carroll should tour with this band. They played the songs perfectly and you could see how much they all were enjoying themselves. Seeing Jim Carroll on stage, doing those songs, and doing them well, is something I will always remember.

Jim Carroll & The Catholic Boys
4/16/2005 Lucky Dog Music Hall
Worcester, MA
If I had known how much I was going to enjoy the other spoken word artists that I saw, I would have arrived much earlier. On the other hand, I would have missed out on the best clam chowder outside of the state of Maine, at the Coral Seafood Restaurant & Fish Market across the street from the Lucky Dog.
When I arrived in Worcester late afternoon, I found the venue and walked in to hear the end of City Drops Into The Night and the beginning of It
