yeah I agree with you. I was considering opening up the anonymous comments to throw out a net to all the people visiting and lurking on the site so they can more easily participate. Registering is not difficult to do though.
is there a way to restrict/limit anonymous comments? I can see how a "lurker" may feel comfortable trying out commenting a couple times w/o associating their name to it.
but
its my opinion that if one is compelled to express opinions online that they should own up to what those opinions are. even if it is behind a screen name. new users should know too, that registering here doesn't make all your personal information public to the world- you can enter as little or as much about yourself as you want.
plus I have always seen everyone on this board to be welcoming to new users.
On the one hand anonymous comments can be really annoying, and even unnecessarily harmful. On the other hand the moderator(s) on this site (Duncan) does a pretty good job of keeping the place somewhat clean and friendly, and allowing the anonymous comments may help some people get their opinions out there that may not otherwise do so. So what I'm saying is, whatever you decide is fine with me.
So it seems unanimous I'll allow anonymous commenting immediately. :)
Cindy, what do you mean by limit/restrict anonymous commenting?
I happen to agree with all of you, I don't want anonymous commenting on the site, it creates a bit more work for me and can lead to a lot of mess. I am glad to see that the people that took the time to vote agree.
i just wasn't sure if there was a way to track the IP of an anonymous user and only allow a limited number of anonymous comments from them. ? It was just an idea I have no idea if its possible or not.

make them log in.
Re: Allowing Anonymous commenting?
anonymous postings can ruin sites. I like how everyone logs in and gets to know people.

That's right! If I'm talking to some asshole I want to know that it's Duncan or Mike!
