Call to Artists for the Holidays!

Greetings artists!
Doug Chapel and I met with Erin Williams, Cultural Development Officer for the city of Worcester this week, along with Katie Krock from Commerce Associates Real Estate and Jan Seymour, the new director of Arts Worcester. They gave us a great update about the Festival of Lights, which the city will be hosting on December 2nd and we wanted to share the details with you.

On Friday, December 2nd, 4-5PM, the city is hosting its annual Festival of Lights with a tree lighting of the common ceremony, performances by local youth groups and holiday festivities. In the past it ended right after this event, but this year at 5:15, we, the artists, are going to help turn it into a big celebration and art sale. The city will be shutting down Main St. from Pleasant St. to Exchange Street for festival activities. There will be horse drawn hay rides bringing people up and down the street, a food sampling from restaurants, and the second Worcester Windows show will open.
Many businesses and venues will be open, free treats passed out by Voke students, street performers and more.

It is bound to be a fun event for all. Now, this is where you come in. We are seeking artists who would like to sell and show their work that evening, 5-8PM. We will have indoor venues in four or more buildings on Main Street for you to sell your work, along with entertainment. The city and Cultural Coalition are doing a HUGE advertising campaign with local sponsors including the WCCVB and Commerce Associates Real Estate, along with all the promotion Doug and I always do.

Our original email to some of you stated that the artist sale would be free, but in order to ensure the success of the event we need to charge a very nominal fee of $15 to each participating vendor. On the positive side, this nominal fee includes parking.
The official registration form will be sent to you via email. We will have a captive audience and we know YOU will captivate people with your talent and wonderful art! There will be an official web site and sign up sheet on Doug's site soon.
We will also be addressing specific size and set up issues soon, please be patient, we have some measuring to do.
We are very excited to be able to work with the city and to try something new, Worcester is truly a great place to live and if we can keep doing successful public events, it will get even better.
Please email us with any questions or concerns, we will do our best to answer them. Mail to
Best,

I am also looking for musicians to play acoustic sets in the areas the art is being sold. The spaces are not large, so no PA's or amplification. You can reach me at if you are interested.
