SUMO sans Simon

Longtime guitarist for the band Sumo, Simon Santiago is no longer in the band. According the website the split was amicable and there is no drama to report. That is really too band, people like drama. Sumo is a great band and Simon is a great guitarist, we wish them both the best.

Sumo will be at The Lucky Dog in Worcester on February 26 with Gatsby, Running With Karma, Of The Hour and The Body

AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR...

We have something of a bittersweet announcement to make:

As of this past Monday evening, SUMO and longtime guitarist, comrade-at-arms, and fellow destroyer of silence in all its forms Simon Santiago have parted ways. His departure marks the end of an 8-year tenure with the band (not to mention about 100 years playing in various other bands with Scott and Brian), going all the way back to the dark days of crappy covers.

I wish there were some tabloid drama or dirt to share with you, but it simply ain't there to report. This was an amicable split that came on the wings of a change in direction for the band. We're all still friends, you will likely see Simon at our shows, and knowing Simon it won't be long before something brilliant is released upon you.

Meanwhile, SUMO goes on as a four-piece. We're really excited about the new material and the fundamental changes that are taking place and we can't wait to see you at the next live performance.

Cheers and thanks to one of the Original Gentlemen of SUMO. Buy that man a drink.

Re: SUMO sans Simon

Well if the Band can't do it on it's own, no surprise, i think we should create some drama around the whole affair. I'll start.

Simon Santiago was asked to leave SUMO because he has a horrible heroin addiction, that is costing the band gigs. They had intended to make a strong push into the slowly resurfacing boy band movement this year, but the smack kept dragging them back into that same old dark place. They will be replacing Simon with 'Jeff' from the influiencial band 'the wiggles'.

GOOD LUCK SIMON!

Re: SUMO sans Simon

If you want to know the truth, Simon actually left the band because all the rest of us are avid solvent huffers. He's long been the only clean one in the band. He finally got tired of trying to herd this bunch of catatonic, stumbling wastoids to gigs.

Incidentally, Jeff from The Wiggles is fitting in very nicely. He showed up for the first "rehearsal" with a can of mineral spirits strapped to his head. I get the feeling it definitely wasn't the first time, either.
