No not a pun on Sirius, do you take internet radio serious? I sit at a desk, as do many people, all day long.
I listen to more music on the internet than I do in my car. The programming on terrestrial radio stations like KEXP in Seattle is fantastic www.kexp.org. I am thankful that they spend the extra time and money to stream their signal on the net. Then there are places like SOMA FM who began broadcasting on the internet in their basement and now host a few of the best shows I know of exclusively on the internet. Much like cable, satellite and FM radio, I believe that internet radio should be taken seriously by listeners and by musicians. For many people it is THE way that they discover new music.
A new study conducted by Borrel Associates found that Internet radio has grown rapidly in 2004, showing a 40 percent listener increase for a total of 20 million regular listeners. The study says that 50 percent of these listeners tried Internet radio for the first time in 2004. Also, some of the newcomers appear to have migrated over from traditional radio, including many people in the 18 to 34-year-old age group. That demographic comprises the bulk of new Internet radio listeners.
Meanwhile, with the growth of Internet radio, a new online show called Domain Masters will air on WebMasterRadio.fm to educate listeners on how to register domain names and get a business started on the Web. WebMasterRadio routinely produces content for Webmasters and individuals who are starting an Internet business.
"We recognize the growth of free Internet radio as a significant opportunity in the domain industry and the Internet industry. said host of Domain Masters and founder of Moniker.com Monte Cahn." The show will focus on all aspects of Internet domains, including domain name registration, buying and selling domains, establishing successful online Web sites, search engine optimization, and domain name monetization."
