It appears that Apple, in conjunction with its Euro subsidiary Emagic
has been busy this year working on a new breakout box for it's Garage Band home recording software. The yet to be named, but for now known as 'Asteroid", device will will include two XLR/ TRS audio input connectors, two RCA analog output jacks, and a standard headphone jack. The new version of Garage Band is set to be able to monitor the working state of 'Asteroid' which will both be powered and transmit data via firewire. The current price point seems to be at around $129.00 with an early '05 release. That price point would put it in the running for one of the least expensive firewire breakout boxes on the market. The design of the device is still unknown but it is assumed it will either be a standard Apple wall wart box, or similar in design to a digital mixer.

That sounds great. I've thought about picking up an MBox, but they are expensive and it looks like this has more features.

if there is anything that Apple hates is another company making money off of their system. It wouldn't surprise me if this product really kicks ass.
