At approx 1:25 am EST today, Apple clocked its 100,000,000th legal download from the iTunes music store. This is a pretty huge milestone for online music sales. My iPod mini and I are going to celebrate with a nice bottle of MD 20/20 tonight.
It really is an incredible thing. In one swoop Apple seems to have modernized the process by which we buy and distribute music and taken us back 50+ years to the days that people only bought singles and not albums. I will be curious to see what happens to the full length release. Will bands spread releases over the course of singles now?
Is it 1 billion or 100 million....either way, it's damn impressive. I concur with Duncan's sentiments...it's vexxing and exciting in equal proportions.
Good on them Now all I need is an iPod. C'mon Ron, you're soooo '99. ;-)
