Marshall Electronics unveiled "the world's first USB 24-bit/96 kHz studio microphone," the MXL USB.009.  This mic offers an easy way for home recording enthusiasts, podcast producers, and anyone else who needs to capture high-quality audio onto a computer to do so at 24-bit resolution, as opposed to 16-bit.

Don't worry, Behringer will have a $100 klone version in two weeks, in light of this product.

I'm sure it will be called ULTRA-usb.mic.thingy  or EURO-mic.usb

$400 for a 24/96 large diaphragm condenser mic doesn't seem like a bad deal at all, especially if it sounds decent.

I agree with Duncan. For $400, if the mic sounds good, plus a decent 24/96 A/D converter, it's really trying to bridge the gap between the podcaster who isn't so much concerned with the ultimate in fidelity with the rest of the hi-fi recording world.

I've yet to find a situation where a USB microphone would be useful to me, but in a case where you just want to do vocal tracks at home, and you don't have a fancy preamp, you can probably do a lot worse than something like this.
