Last.fm's major label deal

I don't see being a Major Label as meaning very much these days, since the label an artist is on is becoming less and less important. However this deal with the labels that last.fm has struck up is interesting. It's yet another in a long list of reasons that FM radio might be dying or at least losing its strength. Now all of the majors are going to stream their music, FOR FREE, via the fantastic site last.fm

Last.fm, the social media site acquired by CBS last May, now allows users to play music from the big four record labels and thousands of indie labels and artists, up to three times, for free.

At the press conference at CBS's NY headquarters, executives revealed plans for Last.fm to become "the first website to offer free, global, on-demand access to the largest licensed catalog of music."
