Ok let's calm things down a bit

Top 5 musicians that make you just stop in your tracks. Whenever you hear them, everything around you stops.
Again, this is an ever changing list. These are not necessarily your favorites, (the Beatles don't exactly make me drool any more, though they are my favorites). For me, it is usually people who I don't own either any or many of their records. Also, they may just be players and not the main attraction of the act.

Buddy Holly
The Flying Burrito Brothers
Elvis Costello
Scotty Moore
Franny Beecher

For today, top of my head, no wasting time thinking

Lindsey Buckingham (I heard Chains on the way to work, what the hell?! he is amazing)

Mark Knopfler (jaw dropping)

Bob Dylan (I keep a safe distance from BD, every year I am more an more familiar with his work, I want it to remain fresh because when I do hear it I think it's genious)

pre-Document R.E.M. (I hardly ever listen to them anymore, but if So.Central Rain or Radio Free Europe comes on the radio, I am totally lost in this weird feeling that I am hearing a secret, R.E.M. fans know this feeling.)

Van Morrison -Moondance (there is nobody that sings with the type of soul that Van sings with, to hear him dig into a song is amazing)

1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins, every time I hear that song on the radio I stop and listen to it. There is something very cool about the way that is produced. That constant note that is throughout the song even with all the chord changes. I don't own that album but that song really mesmerizes me.

Odessey and Oracle from the Zombies. The whole record. Whenever I put this on, I am useless. Sometimes I will get one of the songs stuck in my head and I am done for.

I stop dead in my tracks whenever I hear a recording of any of my own bands. Mainly, it's because I hear my own part, and say, "What the fuck was I thinking?" :-?

I don't think your band is very good.
