Drawing a blank too... Other than chains like Home Depot and Best Buy... the only local stores I frequent would be, and this is the entire list, Kurlan Music, Union Music and Stark Electronics.
If I had more expendable income, I'd include Jelly's.
For the record, I think gift certificates are often for food for the sake of easy gifting. And since you said restaurant and not food I get to put my favorite markets on there. Here are places I'd be happy to spend a gift certificate.
Post Salon and Spa (Sorry Linnea Jeffrey Roberts chased out my 2 favorite people so I've left to follow the ladies) Face Makers Wholly Cannoli (fuckin' dynamite sticks man!) Ace Hardware A2Z Modern Furniture The Futon Company A&P Fish Fingers and Toes Living Earth HBML you could get a $5 gift cert there and walk out with so much shit That's Entertainment CC Lowell Helen's Bakery (sweet rye...mmm...)
and also, I second Duncan's, especially the Worcester Craft Center
uh, i just tried to post this and something weird happened, so forgive me if this goes up twice, but HBML now has gift certificates in the following denominations: $5, $10, $20, and $23. you can even mailorder them. see:

Re: If you could have a gift certificate...
I am pulling a blank here...most of my worcester jaunts are based on food, beer, or music...or some combo thereof.
