Does anyone know what happened to the Green Bamboo? How long has it been closed? I loved that restaurant. There's a freaking sports bar in it's place (I think.).
It's been gone for months! No more spring rolls. No more Lemon Grass Tofu. NO MORE AVOCADO MILKSHAKES! Instead we get more keno, shit beer and mozzarella sticks (just what the city was missing).
Really? I tried it a few times and was disappointed every time. Dalat is a great option, and the Bamboo Hut on your way into Leicester is always yummy, plus they have outdoor seating, and the family who own it are so nice.
I think the menu was kind of hit or miss. They made a lot of great soups, excellent spring rolls and some good beef dishes AND our regular waiter was hilarious.
You guys should really try the Bamboo Hut, they have great lemongrass and everything I have ever tried there has been delicious. I believe it's BYOB as well.
I almost went to the wacky noodle place yesterday but realized that most small family-owned joints in Worcester don't accept cards and changed my mind last minute. I've been wanting to check it out.
The "wacky noodle place" on Green is real solid for Pho...no gimmicks, and -- I gather -- real popular among the Vietnamese in the neighborhood. They keep bizarre hours, but are packed at lunch sometimes.
Actually, I think I'll go there for lunch now...
Dalat is always solid, and I'm an occasional fan of Saigon on Main Street for a few dishes, but their shakes are not nearly as good. Pho Da Kao is OK, but too expensive for food that's equal or below that of Dalat.
Other than that, the best places are in Chinatown in Boston...although I just got a full Boba kit I'm going to try out soon.
i havent been to Bamboo Hut in years. heads up about Pho Da Kao: the owners keep all the tips. no lie.
whats up with this wacky noodle place? do they have the vermicelli noodles? whats the name of it and where on green street is it? I like the shakes better with out the Boba.not sure why you need a kit to make them tho...? ive made avacado shakes at home.with a decent blender its pretty easy.
My bf grabbed a menu at the wacky noodle place, AKA Pho Hien Vuong 508-753-9755.
Some menu items:
Hu Tieu My Tho (A clear noodle soup from the My Tho region of South Vietnam) $5.75
Mi Bo Vien (Beef balls with egg noodles) $5.75
Dac Biet Xe Lua (A special combo of rare slices of pork, beef balls, brisket, flank, tendon and tripe (Large bowl) $6.95
The rest of the menu is a comination of the above ingredients with varying sizes cooked well done or rare. Some dishes have only three of the above ingredients but nothing else.
Boba: Green Tea, Green Tea Honey Dew, Mango, Taro, Plum, Green Apple, Coconut, Thai Iced Tea, Almond $3.25
Had lunch at the Bamboo Hut today, it was delicious as usual. The owner wanted me to let you know they are open Wed, Thurs, and Fri. for dinner only, and Saturday and Sunday. If you haven't tried it yet you should get there!
fyi on the wacky noodle place. i asked a few (vietnamese) people about it and they said not to go.
Any particular reason why they said not to go? I went once and it was pretty good and pretty cheap. I mean it's not amazing or anything, but it's a great little lunch place and for the most part I think it's totally unexplored by most of Worcester.
well, its hearsay. so I'll say first that I have never been there. but a friend was there and said they used the bathroom and found some kitchen supplies/food stock was being stored in there.
i was dissappointed to here that because i would like to have more options for vietnamese food here in worcester. esp with green bamboo being closed.
anyways there's still Da Lat and Bamboo House and Pho Da Kao so I'll stick to those for now.
According to the T&G article, it just opened this summer. Did it already close??? If you're looking for MORE vietnamese restaurants in Worcester, it might be worth a ride down Stafford Street to find out.
Anyone gotten anything from that wierd little place across the parking lot from the Emerald Isle? It's attatched to the laundromat building. I think it's just a counter.
If anyone cares, Binh Duong is still open. Went there for lunch today, it's a little more expensive than some of the other Vietnamese restaurants ($6.95 for Pho Noodle Soup) but I found the food to be really good! We had some fried noodle dishes, along with some kind of fried pancakes with shrimp (very tasty) and since someone had mentioned it, I had to wash it down with a nice Avocado smoothie!
Now if only someone could open a Vietnamese restaurant in the Brookfields I'd be all set!

Re: The Green Bamboo
The Banner's (that's the sports bar that opened there) flat screen tv's looked pretty mint through the window as a drove by on Monday night.
Re: The Green Bamboo
i was also sad about green bamboo. dalat is good but the lemongrass dishes just arent the same there.

Re: The Green Bamboo
I am a big fan of Dalat but I live on Vernon Hill. The green tea boba is so good i get horrible brain freeze whenever I order it.
Re: The Green Bamboo
All the bobas are really good, the avocado is my favorite. I have never had a bad dish there in over tens years.

The Green Bamboo was our fav because they would deliver! Can't get anything healthy delivered to Green Street.....Or can you?
Re: The Green Bamboo

Ummmmmmmm, how about Binh Duong, on Stafford Street? Wouldn't that be ANOTHER Vietnamese option?
(I must be invisible!)
Re: The Green Bamboo
is that place still open?
Re: The Green Bamboo
How is Binh Duong, have you tried it?
I still stress that everyone should go to the Bamboo Hut, it's by far my favorite.
