Picture yourself:
On a boat, on a river.
While a bunch of assholes bust into your home and steal all your pedals. That's what you get for spending too much time outdoors. Anyway.
Because you spent too much money on a kayak or a canoe or a catamaran, you can only afford to replace three pedals. What would you choose? What are indispensible to you? What are the most versatile, workhorse guitar effects you use?
Please remember that this is only a hypothetical situation. I know my narrative has been frighteningly immersive.
Re: Guitar Effects...
I am a hypothetical guitar player but I would go with some sort of boost for overdrive sounds maybe a TS9 or something more exotic after I talk to Roger about this. Then I would need some delay so a EH Memory Man, and then I would have to have some sort of compressor in the chain for my soaring lead solos that require all that sustain. That compressor could be swapped out for a cool rotary or tremolo pedal.
In reality I track all my guitar stuff at home through a Johnson J-Station direct and then process it in the computer. Not much cool factor but it does the trick.
Re: Guitar Effects...
PROCO RAT - utility distortion that rarely sounds bad.
E-H DELUXE MEMORY MAN - the ultimate analog delay IMO. It's modulation of the delayed signal add to it's ability to fill in for chorus, reverb and of course, delay in almost any situation.
I'd say done, right there. but that's only because I know how to mod the Rat for more of a subtle overdrive tone, if required. Barring that, I'd throw in...
VOX VALVETONE overdrive. A Tube Screamer with a British accent.
That said, don't you dare think of stealing my pedals.
