Cask Ale, Craft Brew, Soul Jazz 8pm Thursday (7/5) at the Dive

duncan's picture

So Thursday (7/5) is the perfect day to head down to the Dive Bar as they are tapping a new cask and Steve Mossberg and I will be there playing music.

Music starts at 8pm, no cover, lots of beer.

I just wanted to inform you that it will be a Cask of Lost Sailor IPA from the Berkshire Brewing Company.  We will be tapping it @ 6pm.

We also sell the Lost Sailor IPA on draught so it will be nice to be able to compare the differences!

I'm very excited to hear you guys play together again!  It's been too long!

I just ordered a keg of steel rail for my home bar. Always interested in trying some new BBC creations.

Lost Sailor's been around a while, but it's a pretty underrated IPA.  Probably because it's an English IPA and lacks the up-front, assertive bitterness that is all the rage in the American IPA scene.  Personally, I find it to be be very well-balanced one of the most sessionable IPA's out there.  It's also a nice stepping stone towards acclimating oneself to the aforementioned hop-bombs.

The last time I had Lost Sailor on cask, the bitterness was even more mild, although the hop flavors and aromas were more prominent... I believe they dry hop the beer in the tanks.. I wonder if they hop the cask as well.

Now that was a good time.

Duncan, Steve and the guitarist were a great match for that room.

The Lost Sailor was really good.

The Mojo Risin was holycrap good. I had no idea.

What a great reason to go out on Thursday nights.

(And it was nice to meet Keith and his wife as well!)

Hope you enjoyed that Mojo Risin'... that stuff is pretty much gone til next year. :)

I had two glasses of the cask, a Mojo Risin',  a bottle of Rogue's Brutal Bitter, and a bottle of Three Philosophers.

Damn. Too bad about the Mojo Risin.

I had a glass of the cask, an Allagash White and a Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar.

YetiTibbs had a glass of the cask, a Rogue Dead Guy and a mix of the BBC CoffeeHouse Porter and the Rogue Hazelnut Brown.

Yay! Great night. Nice job Alec, Duncan, Steve, and Michael.

I had two glasses of the cask, which I was pleasantly surprised by.

I also had an Alec special mix -- 50% Festina Peche and 50% Allagash Tripel. I thought it was quite tasty, and the Allagash did a great job of reducing the pucker factor of the Festina Peche.

damn, I really wanted to make it out for this...sorely needed band practice and visiting inlaws from Texas put the kaibosch on that...not that I am complaining as I had a nice 15 yr scotch with my father in law last night.

Well, if any one wants to come out tonight, we are playing Ralphs @ 9pm with the Luxury, Hey Now Morris Fader, and Huck.

Oh ya, and I will have Pixie stix.

So, who wants to help kick these kegs of homebrew that I still have going? The various pale ales feel like they're down to a few pints apiece, but I think I still have about 2.5 to 3 gallons of oatmeal stout left....

maybe saturday.

can't make it today, but I love oatmeal stout!

hmm.. maybe next week.

The new round of brewing will begin next Sunday. Hope to have a cookout in late August, or maybe the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Planning on:

1. Dusseldorf Altbier
2. American Dunkelweizen
N. Coffee Porter (nitro)
3. IPA
4. Kolsch (probably with fruit.. maybe watermelon...)

Thank you all for coming out!!  I felt like a proud parent!  Great job on the music you guys!  I can't wait to hear that again!

Sadly, this thursday there will be no cask (I will be in Jamaica)---BUT the following Thursday 7/19  we're aiming for two Casks! AND Duncan and Steve are rumored to return!

Cheers!
