Ok
I like this one. Ive listened to it a few times already.
I have theorized that the reason I like it is because they started doing heroin. I made this point to Neall and he suggested that maybe its because they stopped?
Either way. The CD is pretty good.
Yup.
"what?"
Re: The New Wilco
I'm not feeling the new CD much yet. Oddly, the critics are praising it as a needed return from the experimentation of "Ghost" and "Yankee," but it sounds pretty conventional to me. I thought those albums (and "Summerteeth") were a huge leap forward from "A.M." and Tupelo, too. I'm also a little surprised that "Is That the Thanks I Get" was passed over in favor of a couple of the songs included.
Songs I like so far: "On and on and on," "What Light," "Impossible Germany."
Any comments on wilco fully licensing the whole album to Volkswagen for a series of TV commercials.

Re: The New Wilco
I've been a hardcore fan of this band since the beginning but I'm sorry, this album is boring. It sounds like Tweedy was locked in a room in rehab with a bunch of old Eagles albums and was told to write some songs. Not one rocker in the bunch.
I think that Jay Bennet had a tremendous influence on the songwriting, production, and sound of this band.I hope this isn't the direction they plan to take with future releases.
Save your money and buy the new Apples in Stereo disc.
Re: The New Wilco
I've been with them a long time, too. Bennett was indeed a huge stepping stone for Tweedy (he's pretty pathetic without Tweedy, though, as attested by some Chicago friends), and he can'tbe credited with the excellent "Ghost is Born."
Anyway, I'm off to see Wilco in two weeks in Northampton.
Re: The New Wilco
I didn't like this record at first, but, with repeated spins, it is fast becoming my most listened to record of the summer. To me, "no rockers" doesn't necessarily mean bad, I like when Tweedy does whatever jazzes him at the moment.
Re: The New Wilco
I completely agree. I think his ballads are his best: "Via Chicago," "Wishful Thinking," "Reservations," "Hummingbird," (ballad? I don't know, but not a rocker), "Either Way," "Lonely 1," "Far, Far Away," "Jesus, Etc."
Goddamn, I love "Via Chicago."

Yes! I've been listening to them for the past 2 days. I can't believe it's taken me this long to find them!
Re: The New Wilco
after kicking TV, when they got the songs from ghost right, I thought they would head in that direction...but really this cd has proven lifeless. Some good songs to be sure, but after well over a dozen listens, there isn't a song on there that I say...now THAT is a great song, lets cue it up.
