A Triubute to the Keytar

There is no doubt that the keytar is one of the most ridiculous (yet fantastically awesome) instruments to ever be invented. The poster child of 1980’s hair band rock and roll, the keytar had a fame short-lived. As quickly as pink sweatpants came and went, so did the keytar. It was too quick for my liking.

The keytar is a hybrid that combines the smooth electronic sound of the keyboard with the free-hanging awesomeness (and neck, for some reason) of the guitar. What other instrument can take two seemingly opposite, but equally awesome, devices and meld them into one turbo-amazing musical weapon that challenges the authority of God himself? None.

I’m asking that everyone reading this please help me bring back the keytar. Don’t let this symbol of true rock and roll fade into dust. Please.

If you need convincing as to why the keytar is amazing and deserves at the very least your absolute devotion, just take a look at the following artifacts, collected from around the world in a global effort to bring back the keytar:

Re: A Triubute to the Keytar

We Played some private party at Union Station and the opening band had a keytar player. I wish i could remember their name i'd put money on it that it was some sort of double entandre or play on words, but it escapes me. All i remember is the matching purple shirts, keytar and "never to old to rock" attitude.

Re: A Triubute to the Keytar

When I was a kid, I remember seeing this very ad for the Godfather of all "Keytars", the Moog Liberation: The look on Tom's face says it all. This instrument just screams "queer"! :) The Liberation is actually an awesome sounding synth though. It is from the same era/design team that gave us the incredible Radio Shack/Moog MG-1. I saw this Boston band, My Favorite Relative about 8 years ago at TT's. The bass/synth player strapped on a Roland Jupiter 8 (or was it a Jupiter 6?) with a guitar strap and rocked the house. Roger
