They are this Wednesday at Irish Times. A couple live performances, and White Chocolate are closing out the night from 10 to 2. I believe they are opening the show as well.
I will be there, anyone else planning on going?
BTW, I am performing with my brother. Maybe the only time this ever happens. It's sort of a big deal to me. Plus, we are doing cover songs, everyone loves cover songs!
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
off topic: I heard a rumor that Irish Times pulled advertising from WoMag because thier DJ didn't win Best DJ.
Regarding your question, I can't make it on Wednesday. Have a good show though, what covers are you doing?
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
Our songs are top secret right now... ;)
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
I'm going. I'll go to anything that allows me to have a couple of drinks after work and see a few of the music gang.
Last year's affair was a pretty good time.
It's a boy Mrs. Walker, it's a boy...
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
Sorry I won't be there, D+D night.
I know What I Like And I Like What I Know
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
When exactly is this going down? Is there a cover? Some sort of schedule?
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
What time does this thing start? I can't find that info anywhere.
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
The bash starts at 7pm. The drinking starts at 7pm + 30 seconds (or earlier if the bartender is good).
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
I'm sure Roger is going right? He's up for the lifetime acheivement award. I'll probably go in support of the "scene" as we say. And, I'll have an excuse to drink somewhere different, but seeing as there isn't one award in this poll for being a bunch of drunks (don't ask me why that category didn't make the list) I suspect we will go home empty handed.
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
I stopped in for a few minutes after I left the studio. I had my dog in tow, so I didn't stay long. Good crowd. Very diverse mix of folks. Said some hellos to Kaz, Brendan, Kevin and Alex from OSB, Joel, Ian and Jed from Jediah, John Donovan and Ed Barnett from the Bee's Knees, Ali Bombz, Sullivan, Jody Ryan, Dawn Sweet's Aunt, Joel and Ian's Aunt, Jason James, Captain PJ and another three or four people. Then I ran out before someone stole my dog. Congratulations to all the winners as well as the losers.

Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
Trebek and Jediah both took home alot of awards. Both very deserving bands. I thought it was a good event and its going in the right direction. I think Carmelita's a little annoying and it would have been nice to have a better MC maybe next year Kevin Barbary would do it. He's good for some laughs. All in all I think its a good event and and a good thing for musicians to get to meet each other and see some of the performances. Regardless of what you think of the Awards I think if this event keeps improving it really has the potential of being a special night.
Re: Anyone going to the Worcester Music Awards?
I'm surprised that there is no list of winners anywhere yet. I think the folks at the Pulse might still be hungover from last night.
The one thing that I will say was cool about how they were doing the awards last night (and mind you, I was there for maybe a half hour and fifteen minutes of that was talking to Kaz) was that they had someone upstairs (between the audio sound board - by the way, you forgot to put Geoff from Switchblade Suicide's mic on) and Barney on the lightboard, on a laptop controlling a projection screen behind the stage. Maybe it was Powerpoint or something, but when they announced a category, the screen would say the category, and then one at a time, put photos of the bands in question up, and then when Carmelita announced the winner, that band's photo went back up while they received their award. When I got there Switchblade Suicide was playing to a huge backdrop of a black and white photo of themselves. It was a slick touch.
The sound upstairs is a little rough, though. They had a professional staging setup with black curtains surrounding the side and back of the stage (creating a sort of backstage area.) The sound was rough, however, because that room just seems so echoey and even with a packed house of "sound absorbers" as I like to call them, the sound was pretty muffled and echoey.
I've only been to Irish Times once before, to see Mike O'Connell's CD release party, so I don't know what the norm is. Just sayin'...
Oh, and Craig Gaumond, if you're reading this, I went over to say hi to you and got sidetracked by Jody Ryan and when I turned around, you were gone.... like a thief in the night...
So +1 for slick production values with the slide projections, and -1 for muffled sound (not really their fault.... you can't treat a room like that very easily). I didn't try the buffalo wings, so I can't review that. Ali Bombz had some, so maybe he can review the food.
