You bet I'll be watching. (Sorry, Keith; not feeling so well, so I will be at home tonight) I love these things as well. I am excited to see Ronnie Spector and see if she still sounds good. She always seems to.
These show are always great. I have the last two still on my DVR because I watch them so often. The jams at the end are usually amazing.
I guess Eddie Van Halen is not showing up because he is in rehab, Alex isn't showing up because of loyalty to Eddie, David Lee Roth was not going to show up but might now, Sammy Hagar is going to be there, Michael Anthony might be. Velvet Revolver is playing Van Halen songs instead. It's a beautiful mess.
and then Bill says, damn I miss you guys...lets make beautiful music again rather than that crap you guys have been doing since I left (not including at my most beautiful and a couple other jaunty tunes)
and tibbs, you suck :) j/k
the good news is I am making progress on the bar, the rail system is about done, soon I will drink your beer and tell you that you suck in person :)
Los Angeles Times Calendar readers no doubt are familiar–and no doubt frustrated– with the sycophantic ramblings of Robert Hilburn, their forever reigning pop music critic. Long known for his Bruce Springsteen and Bono puff pieces rather than any display of insight, of late he has moved on to the current alterna-darlings such as Coldplay and White Stripes and embarassingly bandwagoned onto the buzz bands of the moment (Bright Eyes, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, et al) in a transparent grasp at relevance. His writings of late have deteriorated into strings of nonsequitors where he hops from one baseless point to another. The mess of awkward jumbles of prepositions, participles and bad metaphors make you wonder if anyone dares edit him over there. It is time for the Times to fade him out and free up those column inches for someone else. Just have him phone in the occasional drooling piece when the Boss has a new product to schill. TEARDROPS will fall Monday night at New York's Waldorf-Astoria, as the countercultural power players who run the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame mourn their great elder, Ahmet Ertegun, who died in December.
The loss of Ertegun, a founder of the Rock Hall as well as the Atlantic label and an open-minded record man whose broad taste helped define the term "rock and roll," signals a shift for the controversial institution. With only Ertegun's colleague Jerry Wexler remaining in the emeritus chair, the baby boomers who run the joint will soon have to take on that role and make way for the next generation to determine how its legacy is preserved.
In the aftermath of Ertegun, this year's inductions, topped by the first hip-hop crew to be included
umm Ok, Cindy, what do YOU think of the Hall of Fame, I don't see what these articles have to do with much. I like these shows because they feature all these famous musicians that I admire AND they play music, they talk about music and they pay tribute to music. The actual award means nothing to me, I just like seeing music honored this way. I just watched Aretha Franklin who looks to be not long for this world sing her ass off! 3 songs! in tribute to Ahmet Ertegun. so what's your beef with these?
i don't have a beef with it. why would you say that? you posted a subject and i linked more information about it that i read today. I actually thought that the origion of the term Rock-n-Roll in the second article was interesting. as well as the point about defining what Rock and Roll is.
I'm watching the show on the link you posted (since theres nothing else on TV and i actually have a night off) The Aretha Franklin performance was pretty cool.
SO are they saving REM for last? i hope not
oh and MY opinion? So far its more entertaining than the Oscars were. Plus I would love to hear the full version of "While my guitar gently weeps" that was shown in the clip (with prince and Tom Petty) the little they played sounded kick ass.
So yeah, I fell asleep during the Ronettes performance (not that it was bad, I was sleepy already)....how was the rest of the show? I think Eddie VanAddict didn't went into rehab so he didn't have to show the world he can't play wortha damn anymore...
Ron-al-D'oh!
I'm out getting my abs airbrushed on...leave a message
REM doing Gardening at Night was a highlight for me, they sounded great plus I think I picked up a few lyrics I never was sure about. Stipe was a little low energy but sounded good. The impromtu Why Can't This Be Love with Paul Shaffers Band, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar was pretty great too, I must say. The jam at the end was again one of those crazy surreal collections of famous people. Peter Buck playing guitar with Keith Richards next to him while Bill Berry and Michael Anthony sing backups was hysterical.
if anyone is wonder about those lyrics...
I see your money on the floor, I felt the pocket change. Though all the feelings that broke through that door just didn't seem to be too real. The yard is nothing but a fence, the sun just hurts my eyes. Somewhere it must be time for penitence. Gardening at night is never where. Gardening at night. Gardening at night. Gardening at night.
The neighbors go to bed at ten. Call the prayer line for a change. The charge is changing every month. They said it couldn't be arranged.
We ankled up the garbage sound, but they were busy in the rows. We fell up, not to see the sun, gardening at night just didn't grow. I see your money on the floor, I felt the pocket change. Though all the feelings that broke through that door just didn't seem to be too real. Gardening at night. Gardening at night. Gardening at night
Your sister said that you're too young. They should know they've been there twice. The call was 2 and 51. They said it couldn't be arranged.

Re: R&R Hall of Fame tonight

Re: R&R Hall of Fame tonight
Yeah Bill is going to be there, and they are playing!

Re: R&R Hall of Fame tonight
A Billy Berry reunion, plus they should get Scott Litt back or better yet go back to Mitch Easters barn and make music that has some feeling to it.
Re: R&R Hall of Fame tonight
...And rehire Jefferson Holt. That's when it all went downhill.

I would love to know what really happened with Jefferson. They never told the whole story did they?

Re: R&R Hall of Fame tonight
Thanks for the link to the show. I thought REM sounded great, especially "Gardening". Really brought me back seeing Bill behind the kit.
"Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe"... so much great music.
Almost forgot. Anyone else notice the lovely Hiwatt half-stack behind Mike Mills?
