so there have been lots of updates to the site lately, some you can see, some you can't. Things should be a lot more stable and a bit faster. One of things that has changed is the look of the site when you log in.

If you are not logged in, you still have full access to the website, with all of the archives back to 2004, you can read everything but there are some advertisements on the left column and the Google search on the right. You can't post anything if you aren't logged in, but you can read everything.

If you are logged in, the ads on the left column ads go away and the search magically becomes a more advanced search engine.

why do this? well if you are logged in, that means you are participating in the conversations that go on here, and we like that. Getting rid of some advertising just makes things nicer for you.
