wicked cool playlist

I am pretty sure Wicked Cool Playlist site kinda sucks. Anyone else have any thoughts on the Telegram's music website? Seems like they are just getting started so it could get better. I am curious what they are thinking about with this.

Seems like it's a really good idea, that has yet to be fleshed out. I'm curious about what their plans are, as well... But I'll submit some stuff regardless.

But Jesus H Tapdancing Christ... Did you read some of those band bios? Musicians are IDIOTS.

I don't think your band is very good.

Why do you think it is a really good idea?

For an outsider looking in they will see these bios and self promotion and move on. What the Telegram has going for it is that they are a place that people still believe has credibility. An article in the Telegram still does a measurable amount for a band. By creating this website, which reads and looks amateurish the Telegram become another place that people will overlook as a legitimate source.

I don't really get why they are doing it, they want there content to come in from the bands? What happened to news people writing about things unsolicited?

My guess is more online advertising money.

I don't see any difference between what they're trying to set up, and the Boston Phoenix's Band Guide. Bands select their own music to submit for that, and write their own bios, too. I don't see what's wrong with that at all.

But what they SHOULD do, which the Phoenix does, is have like a featured artist of the week (or month), that their music editors would select. THAT would certainly add a degree of credibility to it, as the featured artists would sort of come with an endorsement from the paper. That's also something that could be given a slightly higher profile on the T&G website, with a link to the "Wicked Cool Playlist" page.

Thoughts?

hey I agree with you Pez, there is nothing necessarily wrong with them giving bands a place to promote themselves and all that. I appreciate it. My question is why are they doing it and does it ultimately benefit any band? The lack of access to getting your band in/on the Telegram is why as a band you want to be there.

Also, the site is confusing.

That, I kind of agree with. My initial suggestion would be to just use that front page to have 1 featured artist, like I was talking about. And while I do like the selections (at the bottom of the page) to sort by genre, or mood, or whatever... there should really just be a drop-down menu with the "search artists" box, where you can select your search criteria. Or something. Hell, I don't know what I'm talking about.
