No More Entertainment at The Q

Worcesteria has the scoop on what is going down, or what it's going down at The Q on Chandler St. Seems there has been numerous complaints about noise, and entertainment without a license. I hope that they get this stuff squared away so that they can continue on.

Here's the story.

The commission (Peter Lukes, Karon Shea, and an absent Kevin O’Sullivan) heard two hearings for the underground-hipster coffee shop Q Cafe, off Chandler Street: One, an application for an entertainment license; another, a violation hearing for having entertainment without a license.

Police said there have been “more than 50″ complaints from neighbors about the coffee shop, ranging from noise to public urination. One neighbor at the hearing detailed public sex, strewn condoms, and cigarette holes burned through a convertible roof. “[The customers] don’t [need to] hang around outside all day long,” said the neighbor, complaining about patrons on couches and playing soccer all day and night.

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

It's on Chandler, small coffeehouse near Nancy Chang and T-Bird Pizza. It's fairly new so there is still time if you want to be a hipster :)

A. I couldn't think of a better way to describe the place. That seemed close enough. I'll gladly take suggestions though.
B. Bonus points to Mike for the Young Ones. Great pull!

Wow, is the Q the new El Delicioso?

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

It's a great place but I always thought it's days were numbered specifically for this reason. I don't know if it's financially possible for them, but they should just move into a more urban part of the city. They are going to do well where ever they go as they already have a pretty devoted following and they are the only game in town. They should move to a neighborhood that wants them and who will benefit from their presence.

Screw the west side if they don't want them. That neighborhood was turning into something pretty cool too.

I don't believe the canal district has anything close to a coffee house. I think it could use one. I sure wouldn't mind being able to walk to the Q.

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

i've sworn off the q after having several bad experiences there...i've never seen a place that wants business less. every time i've gone there (and i've been there several times) the staff has carried on like waiting on customers was a collossal drain on their socializing time. i've gone there several times becase i want to support local business (hipster or not) but if all i'm going to get there is attitude, i'll go elsewhere. i wish them luck in their new location - i won't be there.

Can we just get Coffee Kingdom back already?

I had the same bad experience as Gigi at the Q, but I guess I'm less patient than her. One time was enough for me, and I haven't been back.

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

Bad service is pretty much par for the course at those kind of places no? Isn't it kind of expected?

An all ages place that has good music and pretty good coffee and food kind of trumps bad service. Where we get our expectations in Worcester I have no idea.

Sometimes I feel like we are a bunch of losers who are constantly trying to land super models.

And the Kingdom was not your shining example of anything. People of that era just have a bond with it because it's such a part of so many peoples youth in the city. It's the same thing for the kids that go to the Q now.

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

hmmmmmm gabe, intriguing comments, but i'm not sure it's entirely accurate. i don't go to joint like the q (hipster, pseudo-hipster, or pretensionless) for impeccable service or a super high-end dining experience. but i do expect that any food server/preparer will respect me as a customer and at least pretend that they are interested in giving me a mildly satisfactory experience. the whole "community living room" aspect of the place is charming...i like that they showcase the kids' art and that they provide a venue for folks to dip their toes in the the waters of performing in public - and those are the reasons i kept going back...i value that kind of space and want it to be there for my kids and the kids i know.

if the folks there just want to serve their friends and make everyone else feel that they're trespassing in a private club meeting - then maybe they shouldn't pretend to be running a public establishment -

i do have some pretty fond memories of the kingdon and the service wasn't 4 star at their either, but at least they seemed happy to have customers in the place and went through the social niceties that customers expect when they go out.

Re: No More Entertainment at The Q

I think it's a case of insider vs outsider. I always felt like an outsider at the Kingdom, even if I was there with a regular. That's just the way those places are. Bars can give off the same kind of vibe. So can any kind of local show.

Scenes suck unless you are a part of them. Even then in all reality they still suck. Unfortunately they are everywhere. And I kind of feel that we have all succumbed to them at one time or another.

We had a day without slogans. We should have a day without scenes.

Either way, I hope the people that run the Q get a look at this thread. Lots of good points in here.

Lots of what to do's, and what not to do's.
