That review translates into "The Bee's Knees are unpretentious and their music is warm and inviting and spans a few different styles, all of which are lovable."
I was thinking "splunge" but schlubs is OK.
It's not "hip" to just say that they like you, they have to kind of insult you so that way if anyone disagrees with the review they can say "we called them schlubs!"

Roger is always looking at the bright side and that's why I love him :)
I like how every era attempts to revise music history as if what is happening now influenced what came before, so now everything is hipster versus non-hipster. Pretty lame. Who even cares, good music will outlast any image.
The Bee's were on fire that night instrumentally and vocally. They were absolutely brilliant that night. Delectably jangly and tough. That's what music is all about.
If the magazine wasn't so involved in image maybe they could appreciate the music happening instead of making the scruffyness of the band members a merit.
Was it really that bad of a review? It is what it is...The Bees Knees make good music--they aren't exactly "hip", wearing their little sisters jeans and mascara. Call me crazy but I thought the review nailed it.
I don't exactly see a young Julian Casablanca up there, just some dudes in their thirties playing good tunes, which they gave a thumbs up to. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is.
It's not so much what they said. It's just that the review was just a little too much on the dress of the bands rather than the merits of the music. They didn't really say anything of value about the show, which I guess I feel a review should be about.
Found it interesting they didn't mention the 'Mericans from Rhode Island who were the first band up. They had a pretty cool sound.
I should add that I have dressed "stylishly" for 99% of our gigs. That one night it was ferociously hot, and I happened to have the uni shirt, so I said "Screw it" and chucked the suitcoat.

I am not sure I know how you sounded...or the other band for that matter...but I have an intimate knowledge of your fashion sense.

And now it's all this.
