Google Street View Comes to Worcester

4rilla's picture

Wow!

Google Maps rolled out their street view feature for Boston today, I took it upon myself to see if they decided to take their googlemobile 50 miles west to our fair city.

Lo and behold it seems that goggle has totally canvassed The Wo' with their 12 camera mobile and covered the whole city. It appears they travelled on nearly every street.

Big Google IS watching:

Just go to www.maps.google.com eneter your home address or any Worcester address for that matter. Click the street view icon, and explore!!

Via Street View, here are my housemates Tom and Snow Ghost standing next to the house, having apparently been bagging yard waste.

Any guesses as to when the Google van came through? I am betting I was out of town when this was done :(

Looks like they didn't do the South Side of Westborough yet. I can see my intersection but not my house. Pretty cool stuff.

Ok, that was my temper tantrum for the day.

Re: Google Street View Comes to Worcester

Great, and I thought I was going to get stuff done at work today.  The picture on our street looks like it was taken in September, because the for sale sign is gone from our yard, and the bushes aren't taking over the front porch.

You can totally see Gabe's car in front of the Continental.  I'm having way too much fun with this.

And here's a better view of Tom Lewis and Bruce "Snow Ghost" Russell:

Jacob points out you can synch the drive-by time on Main Street by looking at the big clocks.

Good finds!

I was hoping Rosen would be out there somewhere.

I played around with it for a while at work today, I'll probably do some more hunting in the evening hours.

This has made a great Woo' blog topic for today!

Re: Google Street View Comes to Worcester

I think it's creepy. I also feel like it is an invasion of my privacy. I don't want a photo of me on the internet. Even if my face is blurred out.

I just don't get how common decency has gone out the window like it has. Wait a minute, yes I do. Our celebrity obsessed culture who thinks it's ok to take pics of people while they're going to their OBgyn appointment thinks it's cool when they reach the same "celebrity" of finding their image on the world wide web.

Hi! :-)

Re: Google Street View Comes to Worcester

Is this what you mean by celebrity obsessed?  The service is about finding places visualy, where is the invasion of privacy?

Re: Google Street View Comes to Worcester

Just showed Bruce the Street View of him. He says that was a Saturday morning. "That's the day we went to the dump." Is he sure? "Yeah, I'm sure!"

Re: Google Street View Comes to Worcester

Paxton, please don't do that.

Actually feel free to do that. And you can pay me for the usage.

That's a pic from the Lucky Dog website, you'll have to talk to Erick about royalties.
