Gay for the Dark Knight

zippyzero's picture

I'm soooo gay for this movie...seeking out every trailer, every tidbit of info about it. Probably haven't been this excited about a movie since I was 10 waiting in line to see the 1989 film.

Bought my tickets last week, just to make sure I can get in this Friday.

Anyone else excited or am I the only one who "apparently" needs to grow up or get a hobby.

I want to see it but I'm going to see Mama Mia instead this Friday.

I'm with ya Zippy, can't wait. Been hearing good things although the Herald just gave it a B rating today.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

It's not up there yet. But it should be soon if you don't want to watch in the theaters.

I wonder how many people will be in the theater this weeknd for Mamma Mia?

Zero...Point...Zero

(sorry had to, blatant Stern rip off)
I read that Herald review today as well...Rotten Tomatoes has it at 88% Fresh, which is pretty astounding.

Boys are so lucky. All their favorite cartoons and comic book characters from the 70's and 80's have been made into all these awesome movies leaving us ladies snickering at all of you alone in the dark I wish someone would make a gothic version of rainbow brite so I could be 'gay' about a movie for once...

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Wasn't there a Rainbow Brite move? Pretty sure Punky and I went to see it. Now if there were a Jem movie we soooo would have been all over it.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

When did the word "Gay" take the word "nerd"s place?

Ronaldo's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Moreso "geek" than "nerd" in this capacity methinks...

or, might I suggest "dork"?

The Dork Knight? Hey, that almost works.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Barbie and the Rockers meet Jem sounds like a pr0n movie to me.

Crystal could care less about the Dark Knight but I totally want to see it sooner rather than later.

Holy crap, that movie was good. Starts off a little slow, but damn...

I don't think your band is very good.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Duncan, unfortunately no I didn't, because I had to keep it a little more local for babysitter purposes...but I intend on a repeat viewing.

Still never saw Iron Man tho...boooo.

zippyzero's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I've heard some mixed reviews from some friends who saw it last night, but they all said it was good. I can't imagine that the movie can live up to the hype, but hopefully pretty damn close.

Craiglucantus's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

this movie is very good.

they kept with the realistic approach to it (despite the obvious things).

its almost like a comic movie / mid-90s type denzel washington thriller / science fiction / mob movie all rolled into one. very good stuff.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

One question for those who've seen it. Is it "CGI-ed" to death?
I'm rapidly getting sick of CGI.

Scott's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

WOW! Pretty great stuff, I know he's been overhyped but I was so riveted by Heath Ledger.

gaberollins's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I saw it yesterday. Can't remember there being any obvious CGI.

zippyzero's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I thought it was fantastic...no complaints. I read that they used very little CGI in comparison to most movies.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Saw this last night, totally enjoyable. Not sure the combination of "gritty realism" and ridiculous technology totally worked, so if that annoys you a lot you may not like this move. The only real flaw is that Heath Ledger as the Joker does such a great job that the other characters seem a little washed out in comparison. A good problem to have, I guess. The first "Pirates of the Caribbean" had this same sort of problem in spades. In that movie the disparity was so severe as to annoy me (I kinda think Orlando Bloom is bland at the best of times), whereas in this Batman movie it didn't come close to ruining the movie or anything.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Thanks. I'll catch it later this week, I'm sure.

Scott's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Yeah Mike, I totally agree, Heath outshines everyone in the movie.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

This movie was so freakin good, I am still all giddy about it this second...some fellow coworkers and I have been geeking out over it all day, yeah....amazing.

Craiglucantus's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

ive read everywhere about the complexities too that arent completely obvious. a lot of people suggest seeing it the second time for this reason.

im sorry... but how rare is this when a series is THIS successful? its like every ten years.

i wish theyd make more action/adventure films like this... every movie that come out is always geared so heavily to the lower half of america there's always a suck factor in there somewhere. hopefully this changes that.

pretty dope.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Not my typical first choice of movies but I was really impressed. I agreed to go because I was entertained by Batman Begins. I'm deeply saddened that Heath Ledger is gone because he was INCREDIBLE. Definitely lived up the the hype IMO. There were a few things pointed out to me last night, that I hadn't noticed when watching, and I had to agree it didn't make sense(I won't give any detail as not to spoil). But, I still thought it was amazing. Its very rare that I leave a theater raving about a movie...don't recall one since Sin City.

ps Watchmen looks amazing!!

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I thought Dark Knight was great. I agree with everything that has been said so far. My only complaint is Batman's stupid voice. He sounded like Jim Carrey's character in The Cable Guy doing a Clint Eastwood impression, really cheesy.

gaberollins's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Yeah, the voice kind of bugs me too. I can't remember, did they explain the voice at all in Batman Begins?

delnieve's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I assumed he was talking like that because it's a foolproof (if not intimidating) way to disguise your voice. I actually thought it was kinda cool, that he has sweet gadgets and graphics but doesn't sound very impressive.

Ronaldo's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I too did not mind the voice, as I saw it as necessary...tho it was a bit more over the top in a need-a-lozenge way this time, moreso than in Batman Begins, where it was still half speaking voice.

It did get a bit annoying at the end when he was exhausted and it sounded labored...

but hey...wanna see a magic trick?

duncan's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I don't think it was necessary to make it so drastically different from Bruce Waynes voice and give him a bizarre lisp but maybe that's just me. They could have easily had Batman speak in a lower, more intimidating voice, that wasn't so distracting. It's a minor complaint but it did take away from the movie I felt.

Lincoln's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

Apparently "Batman" likes to beat on women.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,388124,00.html

I don't remember that from the comic books.

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

I can't wait until Batman pairs up with Italian Spiderman.

Wirrlygirl's picture

Re: Gay for the Dark Knight

The IMAX version was sweet
Heath Ledgers Joker made the movie, I really enjoyed the way he worked his voice in that character. playful yet dark, completely controlled yet crazy. I particularly enjoyed the way he giggled to himself as if a sick joke was in his head and he was only letting a little bit of it out.
Next to this performance Batmans constant growling started to look silly.

only one minor complaint, most of the fight scenes were "typical hollywood" where the action is implied instead of showing it, and they shake the camera for more effect. through the entire movie there was only a handful of actual fighting moves that were shown.

I was completely in awe watching Batman on the huge IMAX screen. definitely worth the drive to Natick.
