Worcester Magazine reports that at Tuesday's City Council meeting, Gary Rosen called for local hearings about a possible decriminalization of (small amounts of) marijuana in Massachusetts.

What did he say? Here's the video.

(If I get a copy without sync problems, I'll replace it.)

11d. Request the City Council's Standing Committee on Public Health & Human Services review the initiative petition presently before the Massachusetts legislature that seeks to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. If the legislature does not pass the measure by May 7, 2008, it must appear on the ballot in November 2008.(Rosen)

Here are a couple good recent local blog posts about the issue:

Letter to the T&G supporting decriminalization: "Decriminalize marijuana for drug law sanity, and put our tax money to better use. Criminal laws don’t dissuade our citizens from using marijuana, as can be seen from marijuana usage surveys."
