Yes, it's speed dating and it's in Worcester. In my ongoing attempt to figuratively flip the bird to Beantown and it's overplayed singles scene, we're hosting a speed dating event right here in Worcester at 86 Winter American Bistro in the Canal District. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 9.

If you haven't been to 86 Winter before, this is a great chance to check it out. They've got an awesome fieldstone lined dining room we'll have to ourselves. 86 Winter is laying out a nice array of complementary appetizers and, of course, there's a cash bar. Preregistration is required. so we'll know how many to plan for.

How does it work? You have eight dates that last eight minutes with time before, during and after to socialize, grab drinks, gobble up free appetizers. It's a great way to meet new people outside your usual circle. Make a few new friends, business contacts or ... well, it may take a second date before you fall completely in love, but it's been known to happen. It's a lot of fun and what else are you doing Tuesday? Bring a friend or buddy and make a fun night of scoping out the opposite sex.
