A letter to Jim McGovern regarding H.R. 1207 - A bill to audit the federal reserve

Ernie's picture

I hope others will contact their representatives regarding this important bill, H.R. 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 - a bill to audit the federal reserve.

https://writerep.house.gov/htbin/wrep_findrep
-----------------------
Dear Mr. McGovern,

I am writing to you again in regards to H.R. 1207, a bill to audit the federal reserve.

I feel that this bill is extremely important. We have handed the federal reserve the power to manage trillions and trillions of tax payer dollars, the ability to print money, to regulate interest rates, but we require zero accountability for their actions from the fed.

When the federal reserve has been asked, by Congress, to explain what they do and have done with our money, and where and who it goes to, they have refused. Their answer has simply been, 'no, by law we don't have to tell you'.

This is wrong and it is time to do something about it.

It is time for some of this much talked about transparency in our federal government to be enacted. The federal reserve is NOT a part of the federal government, it is a conglomerate of private banks, whose members are secret. Yet this unconstitutional entity has been handed the power over our monetary system. Accountability on the part of the federal reserve needs to be enacted, immediately.

I hope you can see the importance of HR 1207 and I look forward to soon seeing your name listed as a co-sponsor of this bill.

Thanks for your time.

This new administration is already proving to be less transparent than George Bush's. War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery....

The War on Terrorism is over (now to be known as the "Overseas Contingency Operation")! There are no more terrorists (they're called homicide bombers or homicide attackers)! Further more, there will be no more terror attacks (they're now to be known as “man-caused” disasters)! Huzzah!

Don't worry, I'm sure that McGovern and the Special Olympian-in-Chief will read this "line-by-line" just like they promised to do with the budget.

HR 1207 can be read line by line in about 5 min because the bill itself is only 1 page long. And the U.S. code the bill seeks to amend is only 2 or 3 pages long.

I am hoping that if more of us pester him, Mr McGovern can find 5 min during the day to check it out and add his support to this bill.

If the Bill doesn't include the word "Cuba", McGovern won't even bother to look at it.

Sounds like a good start for a Bill, ernie, but I had hoped that it would be a yearly audit. This just asks for one to be done before the end of 2010...

Tell Jimmy that Bill Clinton said it was a good idea. That's all he usually needs.

Thanks for the tip.

FYI: This bill is the brain child of Ron Paul, an extremist Libertarian whose agenda is basicly the dismantling of the Federal Government. This guy is so far to the right he makes Rush Limbaugh and Sean (sic?) Hannity look like Marx & Engels. No responsible member of the House will go near this bill. Thanks for the tip, MarcP.

Does this affect the intent of the bill? Is there a hidden agenda to a regular audit of the Fed?

I've never been a supporter of Libertarian platforms, or Ron Paul, but I do agree with him on one point: Our military must be brought home from most of its bases throughout the world, and continuously pursuing war in the name of broadening markets for American multinationals (my add) must end.

If you read his reasons for promoting and his general platform it's not a hidden agenda. The goal is to shut down the Fed along with any form of central authority and leave government entirely a local institution, no regulation of business, no social safety net and no federal oversight to ensure that state and local authorities are run equitably. While I tend to agree with you on the last point I think that has more to do with civilian leadership than anything else. A good start in that direction would be to restore the Department of Defense to it's original name in order to make it less palatable to continue maintaining an armed force larger than the next 5 or 6 countries combined.

Re: A letter to Jim McGovern regarding H.R. 1207 - A bill to ...

So the Fed makes money out of thin air and passes it on to banks who create yet more money. The whole monetary system stands on the presumed legitimacy of the central and commercial banks' ability to create cash. While I agree that we need an audit of the Fed, I'm a little concerned about potential reactions to what will be uncovered.
For Ron Paul and his allies the correct course of action is to shut down the Fed and return to the Gold Standard. I don't know what the right thing to do is. But this bill ought to open up a big ole can of worms.
