Vote Yes on Three - Call in Tomorrow (Oct. 30) to Show Your Support

clivey's picture

Everyone knows about the cruelty associated with greyhound (and horse, for that matter) racing. It would be crazy to vote no, but polls show the question is still close.

Please vote yes on three. These dogs are treated beyond horribly.

Grey2K USA and Committee to Protect Dogs spokesperson Christine Dorchak appears on WTKK 96.9 FM on Thursday, Oct. 30, on the Egan and Braude Show from 1-2 p.m.

Call in and show your support of a yes vote on question 3, which will phase out the cruel "sport" of greyhound racing in Massachusetts by 2010.

The call in number is 617-822-1969.

Visit www.committeetoprotectdogs.org for more info.

Re: Vote Yes on Three - Call in Tomorrow (Oct. 30) to Show Your

I'm an animal lover (my pets will attest to that). But, just as the elimination of beef eating would lead to the extinction of cattle, the elimination of dog racing would lead to the extinction of greyhounds. The tracks provide thousands of jobs and millions of dollars, the dogs are treated well out of plain business necessity. Adoption programs are great, but the dogs are hard to manage. Banninig the tracks is a knee-jerk, and ultimately destructive, reaction to a displeasing reality. It's still a reality.
Ignore the choads who want you to vote to ban the species.

The whole argument is reminiscent of the psychos who constantly carp and wail about "future generations" while doing their best to eradicate all in vitro human children. Are they not the future generations?
Don't fall for the twisted logic and proven-to-fail methods of activist dolts.

Re: Vote Yes on Three

Thanks for posting this. One aspect that's been especially interesting to me is the ongoing financial collapse of the dog racing business in Mass. I've come to think of this as less about whether or not these tracks close, and more about how many dogs will needlessly suffer before that happens.

Re: Vote Yes on Three - Your Support

i'm sure dogs are "treated well"during their useful life which is a fairly short period of time. the adoption greyhounds i've known have been extremely skittish and fearful from being crated and isolated from other dogs and/or humans in social relationships. my reading on the issue has led me to conclude that dog racing is exploitive just as treating living cattle as industrial comodities is exploitive - would you want your pets treated the way track dogs or cattle are treated? would any of us?

i'll probably vote to get rid of dog-racing in this state, though i think the question is moot and it will probably die of natural causes soon anyway. if tracks stay legal i just don't want to be a part of any kind of pubic bailout of failing tracks. if their time is over, their time is over.

not eating animals will cause their extinction? we're raising them for lives of misery for their own good? mmmmmm. i'm not buying that one. no way

Re: Vote Yes on Three - Your Support

I hate dogs. If they were racing cats I'd vote yes though.

Re: Vote Yes on Three - Call in to Show Your Support

I think question 3 is almost a moot point. The dog track industry in New England has been a dead man walking since Foxwoods opened. Even if 3 fails, I don't see the tracks surviving more than another year or two.

Re: Vote No on Three

If everyone is so concerned about cruelty to the dogs, wouldn't the answer be tougher regulations to make the dog's treatment more "humane"? Why ban the entire industry? What about horse racing? They use whips on the damn things.

By the way, the question cites "crating" as an issue. Isn't crating a dog a veterinarian/MSPCA recommended suggestion for dog owners?

Re: Vote Yes on Three -

i was up in the air on this issue..admittedly, have not researched it that much...but I was gonna vote yes to ban it....but, I was wondering or afraid that if it is banned, aren't many of those dogs gonna be put to sleep anyway....most of those track owners arent gonna take the time to put on an adoption weekend, etc.

and I agree with what other have said..dog racing is a dead industry.
Shit, i remember my friends dad used to take us when I was like 12, but I have not heard anyone say "going to the dog track" in like 15 years......besides, did'nt Lincoln Park basically try to turn their site into a casino style joint anyway...the dog racing is hardly even a draw anymore.....

....stupid gamblers betting on dogs. Wish JAI LAI was popular in Mass...lol

Just imagine what the cow population would be if nobody took care of them. It would be zero.
Energy is required for life, humans like to stay alive, and beef contains energy to sustain life. It's a pretty simple equation that even microbes have figured out.
The dog racing horror stories appall me as much as anyone, but I know that anyone who works with animals eventually develops a respect for them. Abusers should be punished, no doubt. In fact I'd be first in line to beat the sh*t out of anyone I saw hurting a dog, but people have to be reasonable when they're considering banning an entire (however failing) industry. You just can't go around using the full force of the Government to make people think the way you do.
