Bars and Coffeehouses for New Guy in Town? Hi everyone, I just recently stumbled upon this site and have been browsing it...

Hey Now, Morris Fader

Brux's picture

Well, I went and picked up Hey Now, Morris Fader's second album from the CD pressing facility earlier this afternoon. It looks amazing. Probably better than it sounds! We don't have any CD release bash planned as of yet, and being that I can't get any news outlets to return my inquiries and give us any press, this is my only way of letting people know! We posted a few new songs on our myspace:

www.myspace.com/heynowmorrisfader

Feel free to check 'em out. Let me know what you think (this means you Barry!). If you can't live without one, come see one of our shows (posted on myspace as well) or send me an e-mail at morrisfader@gmail.com

Re: Hey Now, Morris Fader

I was curious to see if you guys ever enterained the thought of bypassing the physical CD all together and just distributing it online through tunecore.com or one of those online distributors...?

Re: Hey Now, Morris Fader

We toyed with the idea of doing a drop card thingy... Basically you set up a little website through this company, and they print up all these cards that you can sell. Each has a different access number. It takes them to your website where they can download the album and artwork and it saves you a fortune! We really wanted physical discs though. We're old fashioned and I guess it gives us some sort of closure.

We're absolutely doing the tunecore thing again to get it onto iTunes. It takes a couple of weeks though, so it's not up quite yet.

Re: Hey Now, Morris Fader

Here's the thing, It's different reviewing a band you know/like verses a new band starting out. Not the honesty part, lord knows I have plenty of friends that know I don't like their band, It's just different. So in the interest of full disclosure, I am a fan of the Hey Now, Morris Fader, I listened to their last CD about 10 times driving across the country and it is still in my mix of music to listen to when I get homesick.
The two new songs show how the band had matured as songwriters. If you listen to "Gone" the vocals are mixed back and the lyrics are sort or sing song rhyming. The song is sort of verse, bridge, chorus, organ solo, chorus. No real new ground here. Now listen to "Down In Front". It's like a different band. Seriously. Strong vocals out in front, great lyrics that tell a story. "Punchline", same thing plus some cool horns to give it sort of a Steely Dan Vibe. I like it, I want the album and I will give it a full unbiased review.

regarding physical and digital only distribution. I thought that I had posted this great article by Derek Sivers, founder of CD Baby, but I searched for it here and didn't see it so I will put the link here. He makes some excellent points about the current state of music sales.

Re: Hey Now, Morris Fader

"check it out here. sivers.org/dd-only"

That is a great article-- and I agree with it to a point.

In this day of age, I personally would never press $1000's of dollars worth of CDs--- but almost make them as a secondary avenue of distribution. You figure you're likely going to blow out most of the CD's at a CD release party, but you also have set some aside for promotional tools, i.e. radio, magazines, etc.

It may be a little more expensive to press them as you go, but if there isn't a demand for the product (not that your CD won't be a million seller) then why spend a boatload of your production costs on 100's of CDs that may end end up in your closet instead of throwing a few more bucks towards the actual production or other worthwhile promotional tools ( I'm speaking from experience). We sold as many online as we did after our CD release party...

At the end of the day, it comes down to who your audience is and what you think your best way of reaching them is...

Give me another copy, and I'll hand deliver it to Barry, next week.

Dude, we listened to the new disc like 3 times last night, while we were stuck on the Pike. Heather really likes Airport Song. My favorite is Down in Front. But like I already told you, the whole thing rules.

I don't think your band is very good.

I presume everyone saw the nice little blurb about HNMF on the front page of the Living Section of the Telegram this morning? You must have gotten through to someone, Brux.

Re: Hey Now, Morris Fader

when we started, we tried out a couple different names only to receive threatening cease and decist e-mails from the bands that owned the copyrights to said names... We finally got sick of it and just came up with something ridiculous that we knew no one else would have or even want. It's hilarious trying to explain what our band name is to people when trying to book shows or whatever. But we like it just fine.
