That "heartbeat" thing is interesting. I have read arguments that the iambic rhythm in poetry--which goes ba-dum, ba-dum, like your favorite Dr. Seuss story--probably stems from the rhythm of your heart.
I had never thought about it in relation to music before, but I have been playing a lot of blues lately on the piano, and when you play swing 8ths it has that same rhythm to it, just like a heartbeat.
Probably not an accident that a kid notices that, since that rhythm is in so many children's books . . .
