I have been on Twitter for awhile, but I still have no idea what to use it for. (I felt this way about MySpace and Facebook as well, and eventually Facebook became very useful for me, so I'm attentively biding my time.)
As the whole laconi.ca/identi.ca thing grows, I'm again thinking about the purposes of microblogging.
Laconica is like an open source, distributed Twitter. A good podcast on the subject: http://twit.tv/floss37
(Considering Duncan's plans to install some sort of wiki here, I'm a little surprised he hasn't floated the idea of a Worcesterite microblogging network. This site seems more about discussion than building a knowledge base.)
mike, I have blogging set up for all users of the site but I have been waiting to launch it. That past year hasbeen very interesting with how many Worcester people have discovered blogging. I think that I will launch it when I feel users will be able to appreciate the broad audience that Worcesterite.com provides vs a blogspot or wordpress personal site.
One of the things that I would to discuss with people, maybe at the next mixer, is blogging and how to reach more people. Sites like realworcester are a good idea (the feed on this site is also aggregating content) and they will hopefully bring more attention to all the sites and people in Worcester. My intention for this site is to bring more original content mixed in with peoples blogging style of editorial writing.
Duncan: By "microblogging" I mean something like Twitter. This is a term of art I only learned this week. (Apparently OpenMicroBlogging is the protocol implemented by Laconica and other open platforms that want to do this.)
An example of an existing community site that's installed microblogging is Leo Laporte's "TWIT Army" for his podcasting fans: http://army.twit.tv/
hey guys, click on your "My Account" over there on the left and you can enter your Twitter account. Your posts will be imported into Worcesterite and people can see your updates on your profile page. The best part though, once you have linked up your Twitter account, you can post here and send links to your post on your Twitter account.
I use twitter all the time. If you use firefox...and why wouldn't you...then you can add twitterfox and your twitters pop up on your puter all day. I follow some great people in my line of work (librarians) and they have some great tweets about new and upcoming technology. I'm kind of boring in my tweets, but feel free to follow me.
I tried to this morning and couldn't figure out how...I'm really bad with this mac im using.
go to your account (in your case punky, right here) and then click edit, then go to Twitter Accounts then add your twitter info in there. Your feed will then appear here on your profile. Once I have a few people doing it, I will add a little area that shows everyones updates.
When click twitter. The page is empty and there is no place to add info.

with this integration I added, if you start a new thread it can automatically twitter it. So I think my account may start getting used.

did you go to your profile http://worcesterite.com/users/dee and click edit? then twitter accounts, add your username and pw.
I think that the page you are seeing is your blank Twitter page because you haven't added your account yet.
I am on AIM at mussburger. If you are around, I can work with you (or anyone) on this.
Re: Twitter
