Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

The next Newton Square crime watch meeting is this coming Monday, April 19, 2010, 6:30 at Jumpin' Juice and Java on Chandler St.

There have been several business break ins recently, one of my business neighbors had the windows smashed out of her car while she worked late this week, and there was a graffiti spree on Pleasant St. If you like the foot patrols you've been seeing in the area lately, you should know they will only be there for one more week. Yup, that's it. It will be a long summer.

If you care and are concerned please attend, if I can't get at least 6 people to show up on Monday, the WPD will disband the Newton Sq. crime watch for lack of interest.

Thanks! I'll try to get there.

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Newton Square crime watch this Wednesday, September 1, 6:30 at Nu Cafe (former Jumpin Juice & Java) on Chandler Street.

The problems that go on at June and Chandler streets are not going away and won't get any further attention unless more people express their concerns. Frankly, right now the WPD and the city council see this as just my problem because no one else complains.

Business owners on the block are all suffering because of the drug activity, but I can't even get any of them to call the police.

If you care at all about what goes on the in the neighborhood, please attend the meeting.

Thanks tons!

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Quick update -

We had a crowd! Thanks for everyone's support, and we were also supported by city councilors Kate Toomey , Konnie Lukes , Joe Petty, and Bill Eddy. Phil Niddrie who works for the city in business retention, and Steve Foskett from the Telegram were also there.

Second - An email went out last night testing all the email addresses gathered at the meeting. If you didn't get it, it was because Elaine couldn't read your email. Please message me and I'll send you her email or you can send me yours and I'll add it to the list.

Again - thanks so much and I'll keep you abreast of future developments!

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

No meeting this month as it coincides with the City-Wide Crime Watch meeting (Weds. 3 Nov, 6:30 @ WPD).

Also, we're looking for a larger venue for the Newton Square group, thanks to all the new participants! If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Needs to be free and hold 20 or so people.

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Time for the monthly Newton Sq. Crime Watch meeting. Actually, we missed last month because of snow, so almost monthly!

Come learn what you can do to keep yourself and your neighborhood safe or come with questions for the WPD. We also get some city counselors who attend pretty regularly if you have questions for them. I certainly don't expect to see the same faces every month, but if you can squeeze in a meeting a couple times a year, it is a way to stay informed about your neighborhood.

Any attendance appreciated!

6:30 pm
Worcester Youth Center

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Time for another Newton Square Crime Watch! The details:

Wednesday, May 4th
6:30 - 7:30 pm
NuCafe - conference room
335 Chandler Street

Please note the change in venue to NuCafe.

The crime watch is about anything you need to discuss with either the WPD or a municipal representative - it's not strictly crime, it's potholes and sewers, politics, parks, city budgets - whatever you need.

There are over 50 crime watches city-wide. To see where the one on your neighborhood is go to the city calendar, where they are finally allowed to post the crime watches! http://www.worcesterma.gov/calendar

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Tuesday, August 2nd
6:30 - 7:30
NuCafe conference room
Chandler St.

Join us for a special summer meeting of the Newton Square Crime Watch. Please note it's on a Tuesday this month - perhaps some folks who can't make Wednesdays will be able to come.

Activity in the area has been hot this summer with a 20 person brawl in the parking lot of Mass Liquors, Kilby Street Posse making a statement at Ted Williams Little League, gang graffiti (not your normal kind - this kind has a message) on Pleasant, June, Courtland, & May Streets, and numerous car breaks and house breaks.

Eileen Kneeland from the Community Outreach division of District Atty Joseph Early's office will be joining us.

I can't be at this meeting, but Elaine will be there. Back to the first Weds. of the month in September.

Re: Newton Square Crime Watch

Tuesday, August 30th
5:30 - 6:30
NuCafe Conference Room
335 Chandler St.

Please note this is a Tuesday and has an earlier start time of 5:30.

Join us for another edition of the Newton Square Crime Watch! How has the activity been in your neighborhood this summer? Have you seen an increase or an improvement?

This is your chance to share your inside on the ground knowledge of what goes on in your neighborhood, especially that which is less visible to those who only look in from the outside occasionally.

This bonus August meeting is in lieu of the September meeting; next meeting will be October.
