good news indeed. The article mentions Unum seeking 175,000 sqft of office space; anyone know if that would that be an upgrade from what they already lease?
But, their current digs can easily be remodeled into housing. If City Square goes through and works the way it should the old Unum offices will be occupied eventually.
I am okay with having two vacant buildings up a downtown side street vs having such a visible vacant property in the center of our downtown.
I understand the concern here of one building being left vacant in order to build another one one but there are way more options with the old Unum building as opposed to the vacant mall, which may be the single biggest mistake the city has ever made and needs to go.
its less space than they currently lease and they would be moving, not adding.
yeah, I didn't word that the right way. I knew they'd be giving up the buildings they currently occupy, I just didn't know if they were ultimately looking for more space or less.
And gabe, I'd like nothing more than for Unum's hopefully-soon-to-be-old buildings turned into housing but it'd have to be done with care; the last thing I'd want to see is another wave of unsold "luxury loft conversions" flooding the market. Maybe we could solve a couple problems at the same time by turning a lot of it into student housing. We'd get a nice influx of residents downtown, and us damn kids would be off of Michael O'Brien's lawn.
I heard a rumor that the good news is that the shitty council decided to have handrails installed around the ice skating rink (by a Providence contractor)

I second a driving range...and maybe a hot dog vendor.
