This story has always stuck in my craw. I have no idea if "the husband did it" which was the read-between-the-lines position of everyone when she was murdered, but the lack of resolution has always been troubling. Some murders go unsolved despite the best efforts of law enforcement, but this investigation was hampered from day 1 by the "husband first" conventional wisdom. Odd that the people closest to the Judicial system are seemingly the most insulated from it.
If Mr. Scola did this then I'd advocate his execution without hesitation. But if he didn't and the authorities slowed down their investigation just in case he had (not through ulterior motives, but simple procedural quagmires that develop when dealing with an investigation that might involve "one of their own"), then the system needs to be looked at.
This poor woman was slaughtered in her own home by a savage criminal. No worries about "stepping on toes" or "appearance of conflict" should have hindered the search for her killer. I suspect that's what happened.
Here's hoping Plymouth can do what Worcester can't.
